Gael's Greatsword is a post-Moon Lord developer broadsword that is dropped by Supreme Witch, Calamitas in Death Mode. While attacking, it cycles through the following functions:
- Fires two small homing Blood Skulls that move swiftly.
- Fires a single enormous Blood Skull that moves slowly and pierces indefinitely.
- A true melee swing with no special effects.
When the player's life is below 50%, true melee swings leave behind exploding blood trails. Occasionally, nine lightning bolts will rain down in groups of 1 to 3.
In Revengeance Mode, Rage builds up quickly while the weapon is held. Pressing the Rage Mode key releases 20 small Blood Skulls in a circle-like manner and reduces the player's Rage to 0. The skulls' damage is proportional to the amount of Rage the player had upon activation and is affected by melee damage bonuses. This attack has a 30 second cooldown; if the player activates Rage again while on cooldown, Rage will be consumed but no skulls will spawn. If the player stops holding Gael's Greatsword, their Rage is set to 0 and the mechanic returns to its normal functionality.
Its best modifier is Legendary.
Notes
- XM-05 Thanatos takes only 75% damage from its large skulls.
Trivia
- The item's name, tooltip quote and function are a reference to the character Slave Knight Gael from Dark Souls III's DLC "The Ringed City".
- If the player has the "Blood and Gore" setting turned off, its projectiles will look like clouds instead of blood.
- The skulls fired by this weapon are named "No Longer Ark of the Cosmos' Superior Cousin" in reference to the Ark of the Cosmos' homing projectiles.
- They were previously named "Ark of the Cosmos' Superior Cousin" but were changed to their current name due to a rework for the Ark of the Cosmos which overhauled the weapon's visuals and mechanics.
