The Vesuvius is a Hardmode wand that drops from Ravager. Its left-click attack is similar to the Meteor Staff; it calls down a swarm of four molten asteroids that explode and inflict the Hellfire debuff upon hitting a tile or an enemy. Its right-click attack launches 2-3 high-speed molten asteroids towards the cursor.

Its best modifier is Mythical.

Notes

  • Similar to the Meteor Staff, the projectiles summoned by the weapon's normal fire may prematurely detonate on solid blocks at the top edges of the player's screen, most commonly seen in caves and enclosed areas.
    • Since the meteor projectiles spawn from the top of the player's screen, the player can move down far enough so that the solid blocks are no longer visible, allowing the meteor shower to fall unobstructed.
  • The alternate firing mode for this weapon deals approximately double the damage of the normal attack, making it a good choice for high, single-target DPS such as bosses.

Trivia

  • The weapon gets its name from Mt. Vesuvius, a volcano best known for the destruction and burying of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii.

  • 2.0.3.007: Nerfed mana cost from 6 to 7. Right click now fires 2-3 meteors instead of 3-4.
  • 2.0.2.001: No longer buffs the player with Molten, but now inflicts Hellfire for 3 seconds.
  • 1.5.1.001:
    • Nerfed damage from 75 to 60.
    • Now drops from Ravager at a 10% chance in all difficulties instead of 100% Malice Mode.
    • No longer considered a fire weapon.
  • 1.5.0.001:
    • Now drops from Ravager in Malice Mode instead of Betsy in Revengeance Mode. Increased drop rate from 1% Revengeance Mode to 100% Malice Mode.
    • Now has a custom - Legendary Challenge Item - tag that alternates between #FF009B ● and #FFFF9B ● instead of a custom rarity.

    • Increased damage buffs after defeating Lunatic Cultist, Moon Lord, Providence, Devourer of Gods, and Yharon.
    • Decreased drop chance from normal enemies in Hardmode from 0.001% to 0.0004%, and post-Moon Lord from 0.005% to 0.001%.
    • Decreased drop chance from bosses after defeating Moon Lord from 0.66% / 1% Expert Mode to 0.5% / 0.66% Expert Mode.
