The Gacruxian Mollusk is a Hardmode non-consumable rogue weapon that can be fished up in the Astral Infection. When used, it throws a snail that drops sparks as it travels. The snail travels in a straight line for a moderate distance before being affected by gravity. The sparks are affected by gravity, ignore tiles, weakly home in on enemies and inflict the Electrified debuff.

Performing a stealth strike with the Gacruxian Mollusk will cause the snail to leave a trail of additional snails, which continuously emit sparks for 3 seconds before disappearing. These additional snails will strongly home in on nearby enemies, or hover in place if no enemies are close enough.

Its best modifier is Flawless.

Notes

  • This weapon's functionality is similar to the Spear of Paleolith, another early-Hardmode rogue weapon. The Spear of Paleolith has higher base damage and inflicts Armor Crunch, while the Gacruxian Mollusk has homing and a unique stealth strike effect.

Trivia

  • Its name is a reference to Gacrux, which is a red giant star in the Crux (Southern Cross) constellation.

History

  • 2.0.2.001: Sparks now inflict Electrified for 2 seconds.
  • 1.5.1.001:
    • Now uses the Rarity Level: 4 rarity instead of Rarity Level: 5.
    • No longer considered a nature weapon.
  • 1.5.0.001:
    • Dust now grants enemies 10 local immunity frames instead of 4.
    • Main snails spawn projectiles 75% slower.
    • Stealth strike homing snails spawn sparks 66.67% slower, last 2 seconds instead of 3, and pierce twice instead of four times.
    • Trailing sparks last 1.5 seconds instead of 2 and pierce once instead of twice.
  • 1.4.2.107: Fixed it having the Rarity Level: 4 rarity instead of Rarity Level: 5.
