For a guide listing gear options for players throughout the game's progression, see Guide:Class setups.

The Calamity Mod adds a great amount of content to the game, so this guide is intended to give the player some pointers on how to progress in the mod. Changes the mod makes to the base game's mechanics are also mentioned throughout this guide.

Mechanics

  • The mod adds the Rogue class, which has a unique stealth mechanic to deal extra damage and special attacks.
  • Several items, as well as modifiers, have been rebalanced throughout progression.
  • All other changed mechanics can be referred to here.
  • Difficulty modes can be enabled through the Difficulty Indicator:
  • Certain mechanics of the mod can be changed in the configuration options.
  • Several bosses can be fought out of order.

Pre-Hardmode

Preparation

Early Pre-Hardmode

Late Pre-Hardmode

Hardmode

Preparation

Early Hardmode

  • Queen Slime can be fought for the Hallowed Key and Souls of Light.
  • Cryogen can now be summoned with the Cryo Key.
  • Aquatic Scourge is intended to be fought after one mechanical boss. It rarely spawns in the Sulphurous Sea, but can be summoned using the Seafood.
    • Its defeat unlocks the second tier of the Acid Rain.
  • If the early Hardmode progression rework is enabled:
    • Mythril Ore and Orichalcum Ore will spawn upon the defeat of the first mechanical boss.
    • Adamantite Ore and Titanium Ore will spawn upon the defeat of the second mechanical boss.
    • Hallowed Ore will spawn in the underground Hallow following the defeat of the final mechanical boss, and all mechanical bosses will drop Hallowed Bars from that point onward.
      • It may therefore be beneficial to not open any of their Treasure Bags until killing all three, as the rewards apart from the bars are not very useful.
  • After defeating a mechanical boss, the Brimstone Elemental can be summoned using the Charred Idol. She is intended to be fought after two mechanical bosses have been defeated.
  • As soon as Mythril or Orichalcum Bars are available, the next Codebreaker component, the Long Ranged Sensor Array, can be crafted to decrypt the Encrypted Schematic (Jungle).
  • The souls dropped by the mechanical bosses along with Mythril or Orichalcum Bars can be used to craft the weapons from the Planetoid Schematic.
  • After all three mechanical bosses have been defeated, the Blood Orange can be crafted. When consumed, it permanently increases the player's maximum life by 25.
  • After all six bosses have been defeated, the player is recommended to fight Calamitas Clone.
    • Calamitas Clone drops Ashes of Calamity, which are used as both a crafting material and a boss summon much later in the game.
    • After defeating Calamitas Clone, Solar Veils will drop from certain enemies during a Solar Eclipse. They are an important crafting material for the Rogue class.
  • Once Calamitas Clone is defeated, Plantera is the next boss to fight.

Post-Plantera boss progression

Post-Moon Lord

Post-Providence, the Profaned Goddess

  • Uelibloom Ore is now available, allowing the Player to obtain Tarragon armor.
  • The items in the Underworld Schematic can now be crafted, including the next Codebreaker component, the Voltage Regulation System, which allows the decryption of the final schematic, Encrypted Schematic (Ice).
  • An Elderberry can now be crafted, which further increases the player's maximum life by 25.
  • Ravager, as well as enemies in the Brimstone Crag, become buffed and will now drop Bloodstone, allowing the player to create some of the items in the Bloodstone set.
  • Providence will drop the Rune of Kos, which is used to fight the three Rune of Kos bosses.
  • Polterghast is now recommended to be fought, and upon its death, the abyssal mini-bosses will now drop new items, allowing the player to obtain several powerful weapons and accessories.
    • After defeating Polterghast, the player can fight the third tier of the Acid Rain and challenge The Old Duke.
    • Polterghast will drop the final Adrenaline upgrade in Revengeance Mode, the Ectoheart, which increases the damage of Adrenaline Mode by 15% and increases how much damage reduction the player gains when hit while the meter is full by 5%.
    • Polterghast will also drop Ruinous Souls, which is used to craft Bloodflare armor, Omega Blue armor, several additional weapons, and the Phantom Heart, which is the final mana upgrade.
  • The player can find the Terminus item at the bottom of the Abyss, which starts the Boss Rush event, although it is recommended that this be challenged once Supreme Witch, Calamitas and the Exo Mechs have been defeated.
  • Upon defeating all three Rune of Kos bosses, the Cosmic Worm can now be crafted, which is used to summon The Devourer of Gods.

Post-The Devourer of Gods

  • After defeating The Devourer of Gods, many things will happen:
  • The player can now use the Ascendant Spirit Essence to craft Omega Healing Potions.
  • The Murasama, a powerful true Melee weapon located in the Underworld Bio-center Lab, can now be swung.
  • Now, Yharon, Dragon of Rebirth should be challenged.

Post-Yharon, Dragon of Rebirth

Post-Supreme Witch, Calamitas/Exo Mechs

  • The Brimstone Witch NPC will spawn once Supreme Witch, Calamitas is defeated. She can enchant the player's weapons to give them new and powerful effects.
  • Upon defeating the Exo Mechs, Exo Prisms will be dropped and Miracle Matter can be crafted, allowing the to player combine the Ancient Manipulator, Cosmic Anvil, Hardmode Forge, and Tinkerer's Workshop to obtain Draedon's Forge and craft several Exo-Weapons.
  • Materials dropped by both Supreme Witch, Calamitas and the Exo Mechs allow for Shadowspec Bars to be crafted, used to craft endgame-tier items. Notably, the player can obtain Demonshade armor.
  • It is at this point that the player should be strong enough to face off against the Boss Rush.
    • Upon defeating the Boss Rush, the player can obtain a special reward, with most playthroughs ending at this point.
  • While optional, the player can head to the Abyss and attempt to fight the Primordial Wyrm.

The Endgame

After the player defeats the Boss Rush (and optionally the Primordial Wyrm), they are in the endgame now. At this point, the player has several options of where to keep going, including playing other mods or starting over their adventure with the Calamity Mod as a different class.

Some things you can try:

  • Start a new playthrough in higher difficulty (Normal Mode < Expert Mode < Revengeance Mode < Master Mode < Death Mode). There is also Infernum Mode, a difficulty mod created by Lucille Karma and maintained by Javyz.
  • Change the health of bosses in the mod's config.
  • Attempt no-hitting all bosses in Revengeance Mode or Death Mode.
  • Complete all Angler fishing quests added by the Calamity Mod.
  • Construct buildings or settings from the Lore such as the Sea Kingdom or the Archmage's castle.
  • Try to beat Revengeance Mode or Death Mode without rage or Adrenaline.
  • Beat multiple bosses at once.
  • Learn speedrunning.
  • Create pixel art of content added by the Calamity Mod.
  • Acquire every single weapon and tool.
  • Obtain every single armor and vanity set.
  • Gather up every single accessory.
  • Collect every single Trophy, Boss Mask, and Banner.
  • Collect every Relic if playing on Master Mode or Revengeance Mode.
  • Gather up every single Music Box.
  • Mine out every single ore that the Calamity Mod adds.
  • Suggest ideas in the Calamity Mod Discord.
  • Find bugs and glitches so the mod developers can fix them for everyone's benefit.
  • Create a wardrobe of different costumes that resemble certain characters.
  • Dig out every single block in a world.
  • Prepare for future updates.
  • Contribute to the Wiki!

The Calamity Mod is an ever-changing project, with more content to come in the future for both the current progression of the Mod and beyond Supreme Witch, Calamitas. The player can prepare themselves for when the mod updates to add bosses and/or events such as Yharim himself.
