The Devourer of Gods is a post-Moon Lord boss that is intended to be fought after all of the Rune of Kos bosses have been defeated. The fight against this boss is lengthy and difficult, with several phases and numerous varying attacks and behaviors.
Defeating him will provide the player with Cosmilite Bars, a crafting material necessary for crafting a variety of late-game equipment. The Pumpkin Moon, Frost Moon, and Solar Eclipse events will significantly increase in difficulty as well, allowing enemies to drop Nightmare Fuel, Endothermic Energy, and Darksun Fragments respectively, which are also essential late-game crafting materials.
Spawn
The Devourer of Gods does not spawn on his own, and requires the player to summon him with the Cosmic Worm. He can be fought anywhere and at any time.
When summoned, he will make a loud cosmic screech instead of the typical boss roar.

Behavior
The Devourer of Gods at his core is a worm enemy, featuring a head trailed by body segments and ending with a tail, flying through the air and digging through blocks. His body segments have very high damage reduction, though his head and tail segments do not and will even take increased damage, rendering them the primary targets for dealing damage. The Devourer of Gods has 82 segments in total during Phase 1, and 102 segments in total during Phase 2. If the player is more than 150 tiles away from the Devourer of Gods' head, he will immediately turn towards the player.
When initially spawned, the sky will tint blue, and the boss will fly and circle in the air over the player in a manner similar to a Crawltipede. He will not attempt to physically attack the player unless they are a noticeable distance off the ground. The Devourer of Gods can fly through air as if traveling through solid tiles in this phase, and the Warped debuff is inflicted on all players, which multiplies their vertical velocity by 1.01 every frame, in turn making them more lightweight. This effect is identical to the Caribbean Rum.
After 15 seconds (initially), the sky tints to a bright purple and The Devourer of Gods descends to the ground, now continuously charging at the player regardless of their distance above the ground. He cannot fly in this phase when on-screen, but will gain extremely high acceleration and top speed, and will rapidly accelerate to turn around if he strays too far from the target. Replacing Warped, the Extreme Gravity debuff is inflicted on all players, disabling infinite flight and reducing flight time by 25%. This phase also lasts for 15 seconds, after which he becomes passive to grounded players and resumes flying, the sky tints blue, and Extreme Gravity is once again replaced by Warped.
These modes primarily function on a timer, periodically alternating between the two behaviors. As his health decreases, he spends less time in his passive phase, eventually only switching to it for less than a second. If the player is far away from The Devourer of Gods, he will quickly switch to his aggressive phase in order to accelerate to them, disregarding the timer entirely.
Attacks
- Charges the player if they are airborne while passive. Always charges, and is affected by gravity, while aggressive.
- All segments inflict the God Slayer Inferno and Whispering Death debuffs.
- His movement speed increases when at 92%, 84%, 76%, and 68% health.
- Every few seconds, fires a simultaneous barrage of aimed Death Lasers from his segments, telegraphed by brief on-screen lines.
- When at 90% health, on intervals, fires an additional barrage of death lasers from the sides of the player, telegraphed by lines in a X-like pattern.
- These patterns follow a set order of from the right, from the left, from the right and left, and from all 4 cardinal directions.
- One laser will always be aimed directly at the player.
- Lasers travel further and faster as The Devourer of Gods loses health.
- When at ~80% health, he can turn partially invisible and fire 2 quick laser barrages from off screen, in a similar pattern to his usual barrages but significantly denser.
- He cannot deal contact damage while invisible but can still be damaged.
- When at 75% health, the sky will turn pitch black, making it difficult to tell which movement method The Devourer of Gods is currently following.
- When at 60% health, he will become intangible and fly into a portal, starting the transition to its final phase.

Attacks
- Continues previous movement patterns, charging the player if they are airborne while passive, and is gravity-affected but always charging while aggressive.
- Becomes increasingly aggressive during his passive phase as he loses health, gaining the ability to charge at the player even if they are on the ground.
- Retains his periodic laser barrages, although he loses the ability to spawn lasers from around the target.
- He periodically fires Death Fireballs from his mouth which inflict the God Slayer Inferno debuff. They are shot around the player or ahead of them if they are moving.
- The fire rate increases drastically when it is at 10% health.
- When at 50% health and after 12 seconds, he will turn partially invisible and fire 2 quick horizontally and vertically moving laser walls from off screen, with gaps between them for the player to remain in. Occasionally the laser patterns from Phase 1 will also be included with the laser walls, either the horizontal or vertical lasers not appearing in these patterns. The lasers are telegraphed by lines which appear in front of where the lasers will be shot. This will occur every 12 seconds.
- One laser will always be aimed at the player.
- The same laser wall pattern will never appear twice in a row.
- During laser wall phases, the player has infinite flight time.
- When at 20% health, he will force a laser wall attack, regardless of the laser wall timer. He then spawns a portal near the player, and after a few seconds, teleports to the portal in a large burst of particles and charge at the player, additionally summoning 3 Cosmic Guardians. He now gains a speed boost and no longer uses laser walls.
- The Cosmic Guardians cannot deal or receive damage for approximately 3 seconds after spawning to prevent cheap hits.
- When at 15% health, the sky will turn pitch black again.
In Expert Mode
- His segments are larger.
- During the first phase, his speed increases even further at 10% health.
- Projectiles are fired at much higher rates.
In Revengeance Mode
- During the first phase, summons 1 Cosmic Guardian at 90% health and 2 at 75% health.
- During the final phase:
- Immediately following a wall of lasers phase, or if the player strays too far away from the Devourer of Gods, he will spawn a portal near the player before teleporting there and charging at them, with the charge predicting their movement.
- The portal will create a large explosion of death fireballs when the Devourer charges when at 40% health.
- The portal will disappear if a laser wall phase is about to occur.
- The laser walls have a different pattern.
- Immediately following a wall of lasers phase, or if the player strays too far away from the Devourer of Gods, he will spawn a portal near the player before teleporting there and charging at them, with the charge predicting their movement.
In Death Mode
- The sky no longer changes colors to indicate the phases and stays pitch black for the entire fight.
- Always moves at maximum speed regardless of health.
- During the final phase:
- He fires fireballs at a higher rate.
- He changes more often between the passive and aggressive phases.
On the For the worthy seed
- Size increased by 50%.
- Moves and turns 10% faster.
- Warped debuff's acceleration multiplier is increased from 1.01 to 1.02.
During the Boss Rush

- Once defeated, the Pumpkin Moon, Frost Moon, and Solar Eclipse will become more difficult. Certain enemies in the events will also begin to drop Nightmare Fuel, Endothermic Energy, and Darksun Fragments respectively.
- The Cosmic Anvil can be accessed, now that the player has obtained Cosmilite Bars, allowing the player to craft late-game items.
- The Bandit will begin selling the Venerated Locket.
- The Clothier will begin selling all five Legacy vanity headpieces.
- The Drunk Princess will begin selling the Music Box (Devourer of Gods - Eulogy).
- The Murasama can be swung properly.
- Plays the "Scourge of the Universe (Eulogy for the Ego)" music when defeated for the first time.
Notes
- The boss always begins in his airborne passive mode when he spawns.
- While the Devourer of Gods is alive, the player's horizontal movement speed is reduced, making it harder to outrun the boss.
- All damage inflicted on his head is multiplied by 1.10, while all damage inflicted on his tail is multiplied by 1.25.
- The head and tail segments take decreased damage the further the player is from them, up to a maximum of 25% reduced damage.
- During the final phase, all of The Devourer of Gods' segments appear on the map.
- The Devourer of Gods' body segments in both phases and his tail in the final phase are invulnerable for 6 seconds upon spawning. Additionally, his tail in the first is invulnerable for 12 seconds upon spawning.
- Enraging the Devourer of Gods with Demonshade armor will instantly trigger laser walls for the debuff's duration. The Devourer of Gods will remain visible for the debuff's duration if he was visible when enraged. Similarly, he will remain invisible for the debuff's duration if he was invisible when enraged.
- All of the Devourer of Gods' loot will spawn at the nearest segment with the exception of the Cosmilite Bricks and Hearts which will always spawn at the head.
- Despite not appearing in the buffs tray, Boss Effects are still applied to players during the transition between the first and second phases.
- When playing in a multiplayer world, upon reaching his second phase, the Devourer of Gods will appear near the player closest to the world spawn. This can pose an issue if one is not prepared, as arenas will often be made far away from spawn, and NPCs kept close to it.
- After the boss transitions between his first and second phases, all segments except for his head and tail will deal no contact damage momentarily.
Tips

- By building a very long platform at least half the screen's height off the ground and using the high-speed sprint of the Celestial Tracers, The Devourer of Gods can be lured and trapped under the platform if the player temporarily drops below it while the boss is in his aggressive ground-based mode.
- The Devourer of Gods' body has very high damage reduction. Because of this, his head and tail should be prioritized and aimed for as much as possible.
- In Revengeance Mode, save up the Rage for the first Cosmic Guardian and the Adrenaline for the last two. This will make dealing with them much easier. Keep in mind that Adrenaline is set to 0 when the player is hit, so be careful while holding it.
- While The Devourer of Gods uses his laser wall spam attack during the final phase, his segments are unable to deal damage until they fully materialize back.
- This battle can cause severe FPS drops throughout the fight on low-end devices, especially in Death Mode, thus it would be wise to not spam a lot of projectiles to reduce the lag as much as possible. This is especially the case with weapons that emit many particles or shoot many projectiles.
- This can, however, give the player more time to react to the boss' attacks. This is especially valuable when the boss spams the lasers in his second phase, where the player will have more time to react and avoid the lasers.
- Avoid flying up in the air for too long during the Warped phase. Because the player has increased vertical movement, they will be susceptible to the Devourer's attacks for an extended period of time.
- The Devourer of Gods decreases player's horizontal speed over time, making it very difficult to outrun the boss with speed accessories like Angel Treads and Celestial Tracers.
- Dash accessories can be used to increase horizontal speed and counter the speed decrease for a short amount of time, providing a powerful combo when paired with the aforementioned speed accessories.
- Using the Rod of Discord or running diagonally away from the Devourer can also be help with outrunning the boss, though the player may still get hit while falling if they do not carry a Slimy Saddle or Suspicious Looking Jelly Bean mount.
- The Devourer of Gods could be fought before any other post-Moon Lord boss is defeated, though it is highly recommended that the player defeats Polterghast, and optionally The Old Duke, before attempting the fight, as the Devourer's very fast speed, high damage, and complex attack pattern makes the fight extremely difficult.
- During the transition between phases, the head and tail will still deal contact damage. Due to this, the player should avoid them as much as possible.

- The Bestiary entry for The Devourer of Gods: "An entity of many titles and reputations, it is easy to conflate the truth and myths of its many legendary deeds. Though Yharim once believed that the essence he devours is utterly and completely erased from existence, it is a fundamental rule of creation that energy cannot be destroyed– it can only be transferred from one form to another."
