Debuffs are status effects that affect the player or target negatively. This page comprehensively lists all debuffs added by the Calamity Mod, and also describes Calamity's new mechanics pertaining to debuffs, and changes to vanilla debuffs.

Debuff Resistances and Vulnerabilities

The Calamity Mod introduces a debuff resistance and vulnerability system. There are five sets of debuffs that enemies may be resistant or vulnerable to: cold, water, sickness, electricity and heat. If an NPC is vulnerable to one of these sets, damage over time (DoT) effects from that set are 2x as effective. If an NPC is resistant to one of these sets, all effects from that set are 0.5x as effective.

In the table below, Tango Tick1.png represents a vulnerability and Tango Cross1.png represents a resistance.

Amplification

Certain buffs, debuffs, and equipment can amplify the effects of these vulnerabilities or cancel out resistances:

  • NPCs that are Wet or submerged in water, lava, or honey are considered vulnerable to electricity.
    • If that NPC is already vulnerable to electricity, then electricity debuffs are 1.5x more effective again on that NPC. This means they will be 3x as effective in total.
    • If that NPC is resistant to electricity, then being Wet or submerged cancels out the resistance. This means that electricity debuffs will work as normal while that NPC is Wet or submerged.
  • The same logic applies to Slimed or Sparkle Slimed NPCs with heat debuffs as well as Irradiated NPCs with sickness debuffs.
  • The Fireball alcohol cause heat debuffs to be additively 25% more effective on all NPCs.
  • The Cinnamon Roll alcohol cause heat debuffs to be additively 50% more effective on all NPCs.
  • The Hellfire Treads accessory causes heat debuffs to be additively 50% more effective on all NPCs.
  • The Snow armor set bonus causes cold debuffs to be additively 25% more effective on all NPCs.
  • The Cryo Stone accessory causes cold debuffs to be additively 50% more effective on all NPCs.
  • The Toxic Heart accessory causes sickness debuffs to be additively 50% more effective on all NPCs.
  • The Transformer accessory causes electricity debuffs to be additively 50% more effective on all NPCs.
  • The Evergreen Gin alcohol causes both sickness and water debuffs to be additively 25% more effective on all NPCs.

NPC-Specific Resistances

Some NPCs are less affected by their vulnerabilities:

  • Worm NPCs that are vulnerable to a certain set of debuffs only cause them to be 1.5x as effective, rather than the normal 2x.
    • Similarly, amplifications only increase effectiveness by 1.25x instead of 1.5x (bringing the total to 1.875x effectiveness from 3x).
  • The Slime God shares this logic, but only for heat debuffs.

Boss Slows and Stuns

In the Calamity Mod, many bosses are now vulnerable to most debuffs that allow them to be slowed down or stunned. However, after being afflicted with one of these debuffs, the boss will become immune to slowing effects from these debuffs for 30 seconds.

Your flesh is melting off

Disabling Target and Super Dummy hitboxes

If inflicted on the player: Target loses 4 health per second.
Your neurons are popping like corn kernels
Brimstone Flames Brimstone Flames Calamitas Clone, Catastrophic Construct, Cataclysmic Construct, Brimstone Elemental, Calamity Eyes, Soul Slurpers, Heat Spirits, and various weapons. If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 30 health per second.
If inflicted on a player: Target loses 8 health per second.
Incinerating both body and mind
Burning Blood Burning Blood The Perforators, Rem's Revenge, and several Crimson themed weapons. If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 25 health per second.
If inflicted on the player: Target loses 4 health per second.
Your blood is on fire
Clamity Clamity Giant Clam Spawn rates of Clams go up and Clams become aggressive, all other spawn rates are reduced to zero The clams have been angered!
Crush Depth Crush Depth The Abyss, Bloatfish, Bobbit Worms, Colossal Squids, Eidolon Wyrms, Giant Squids, Gulper Eels, Reaper Sharks, and various weapons. If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 30 health per second (in Pre-Hardmode) or 90 health per second (in Hardmode)
If inflicted on a player: Target loses 9 health per second.
The higher defense a target has, the less damage taken per second.
Crushed by aquatic pressure
Dragonfire Dragonfire Yharon, Dragon of Rebirth, The Torch God, and items dropped from Yharon. If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 180 health per second.
If inflicted on a player: Disabled life regeneration, target loses 18 health per second.
Engulfed by roaring flames

If inflicted on a player: Target loses 8 health per second.
Dissolving from holy light
Holy Inferno Holy Inferno Providence, the Profaned Goddess Target takes damage that exponentially increases in severity as time spent away from Providence increases to a maximum of 100 health per second. You've gone too far from the Profaned Goddess!
Icarus' Folly Icarus' Folly Providence, the Profaned Goddess All infinite flight is disabled, maximum flight time is reduced by 33%. Your wing time is reduced by 33%, infinite flight is disabled.
Irradiated Irradiated Acid Rain enemies and several Acid Rain themed weapons. If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 10 health per second and increases effectiveness of sickness debuffs.
If inflicted on a player: Target loses 2 health per second, 10 defense, and 10% damage reduction.
Your skin is burning off
Miracle Blight Miracle Blight XF-09 Ares, Iridescent Excalibur and weapons made with Miracle Matter. If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 1250 health per second.
If inflicted on a player: No health regeneration, target loses 20 health per second.
Exotic resonance shreds your corporeal form
Nightwither Nightwither Providence, the Profaned Goddess, Profaned Energy, Polterghast, various weapons, and Umbraphile armor. If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 100 health per second.
If inflicted on a player: Target loses 8 health per second.
Incinerated by lunar rays
NO U NO U THE LORDE Armors and accessories no longer work. Equips disabled
Plague Plague The Plaguebringer Goliath, Plaguebringers, Melters, Plagueshells, Virulings, Pestilent Slimes, Plague Chargers, and various weapons. If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 50 health per second and 5% contact damage.
If inflicted on a player: Target loses 10 health per second, 15% damage, and their vision is darkened.
Rotting from the inside
Sulphuric Poisoning Sulphuric Poisoning Water in the Sulphurous Sea, several weapons, Nuclear Terrors, and Radiators post-Polterghast If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 90 health per second.
If inflicted on a player: Target loses 3 health per second and natural regen is disabled.
The acidic water burns away your flesh
Vulnerability Hex Vulnerability Hex Supreme Witch, Calamitas, Cataclysm, Catastrophe, Soul Seekers, Calamity and weapons enchanted with Aflame. If inflicted on an enemy: Target loses 1332 health per second.
If inflicted on a player: Disables life regeneration, target loses 8 health per second, 20 defense, 10% damage reduction, and their vision is darkened. Flight time is reduced by 25%.
Your mental fortitude is fading
Warped Warped The Devourer of Gods Target has increased vertical acceleration. Movement is being warped
Weak Petrification Weak Petrification Ravager Disables additional jumps and jump height boosts. Flight time is reduced by 50%, all infinite flight and mounts are disabled. Your vertical movement is weakened
Whispering Death Whispering Death Signus, Envoy of the Devourer, The Devourer of Gods, Omniblade If inflicted on an enemy: Target's contact damage is reduced by 10%.
If inflicted on a player: damage reduced by 25% and no life regen.
