The Murasama is a post-Moon Lord melee weapon. It can be found in The Underworld's Bio-center Arsenal Lab, contained within a Security Chest.

Although Murasama is technically obtainable in Pre-Hardmode, it cannot be swung until The Devourer of Gods has been defeated in the current world. In this unusable state, it will have a "sheathed" appearance in which the blade is covered by a mechanical exterior.

After the Devourer of Gods is defeated, the item's appearance changes to reveal the glowing red blade, and it is now capable of being swung. While being swung, large red electric slashes will swing in the direction of the cursor, and any enemies that are hit by the slashes will take damage. The slashes appear in a set looping order: one large upward slash, one larger electrified upward slash, and then a slightly smaller downward slash. Every third slash deals 200% of the weapon's damage and has a larger hitbox. The Murasama emits bright red particles outward as it swings. It also possesses a larger than normal critical strike chance.

Its best modifier is Godly. It cannot get modifiers that affect size. Ruthless might be preferred if the player already has 100% critical strike chance.

Notes

  • The Murasama's small range makes it very difficult to hit most bosses with it, especially the bosses that follow The Devourer of Gods.
  • The Murasama only deals 85% damage to Ares and its weapons.

Trivia

  • The Murasama is a reference to a weapon of the same name and similar appearance wielded by the character Jetstream Sam from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
    • The fast, blurred cutting animation that the item uses is based on the blurring visuals shown when the player or Sam uses the sword.
      • The fact the weapon was "ID locked" is also a reference to Sam, for the inability of using his weapon immediately after defeating him, unlike the other bosses in Metal Gear Rising.
    • The weapon's tooltip, "There will be blood!", is a reference to the lyrics of "The Only Thing I Know For Real", which is Sam's boss theme, specifically the line "The only thing I know for real- There will be blood! Shed!"
  • The first frame of the Murasama's slash animation has a Crewmate from the game Among Us hidden in it.

History

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • 2.0.3.008:
    • Now has a larger hitbox during its third slash.
    • Decreased swing sound volume.
    • Resprited it and its slash.
  • 2.0.3.007:
    • Nerfed damage from 3001 to 2222, but buffed critical strike chance from 34% to 65%.
    • No longer has a 200% size modifer, but now grants 6 ID-static immunity frames instead of 21.
    • Every third swing of the blade now deals 200% base damage.
    • Now unlocked after defeating Devourer of Gods instead of Yharon, and can no longer be unlocked early by using certain player names.
    • Added new visual effects when hitting enemies.
  • 2.0.1.002: Decreased sell price from 50 Gold Coin to 30 Gold Coin.

    • Now receives an additional damage bonus that scales with the player's melee swing speed stat with a 1:4 ratio.

  • 1.2.4.204: Increased size and it now grants 2 local immunity frames instead of 3.
  • 1.2.1.005: Now grants 3 local immunity frames instead of 1.
  • 1.1.7.901: Now completely ignores immunity frames instead of hitting every other frame.
  • 1.1.7.855: Now grants local immunity frames instead of global immunity frames when hitting enemies.
