Caustic Beam

The Caustic Edge is a craftable Hardmode broadsword that autoswings. When swung, it fires a green-purple sword beam that can bounce or pierce twice but loses 50% velocity on each bounce or enemy hit. The sword beam deals 75% of the weapon's damage. True melee hits and sword beams inflict the Acid Venom debuff.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
    • Buffed knockback from 5.5 to 6, but nerfed shot speed from 16 to 12.
    • True melee hits now inflict Acid Venom for 3 seconds instead of 2.5.
    • Projectiles now deal 75% base damage, inflict Acid Venom for 1 second instead of 1.5, and lose 50% velocity on enemy and tile hits.
    • Improved the dust visuals of its projectiles. Projectiles now oscillate in size as they travel, alternate between green and purple, and have slight transparency.
  • Renamed from "True Caustic Edge" to "Caustic Edge".
    • Buffed damage from 100 to 150.
    • No longer inflicts On Fire!.
    • Direct hits now inflict Poisoned for 5 seconds instead of 10, and Venom for 2.5 seconds instead of 5.
    • Projectile now inflicts Poisoned for 3 seconds, and Venom for 2 seconds instead of 1.5.
    • Now uses the Rarity Level: 4 rarity instead of Rarity Level: 5.
  • Fixed the tooltip mentioning its outdated additional damage on bounce function.
  • Projectile no longer gains additional damage after bouncing off a block.
    • Buffed damage from 42 to 100.
    • Projectile now gains a 25% increase to damage per bounce.
    • Now uses the Any Evil Flask recipe group.
  • Projectiles are now briefly invisible upon spawning.
    • True melee hits now inflict Poisoned for 10 seconds and now inflict Venom for 5 seconds instead of 3.
    • Resprited.
  • Lowered the brightness of projectiles.
  • Beam no longer idly produces dust.
    • Nerfed damage from 75 to 47, but buffed knockback from 5.25 to 5.75.
    • No longer uses 1 Broken Hero Sword in its recipes.
  • Projectiles now use dust ID 74 instead of 44.
  • Now uses 3 Deathweed, 5 Flasks of Poison, and 5 Flasks of Cursed Flames or Ichor in its recipe instead of 10 Deathweed, 20 Vials of Venom, and 2 Lava Buckets.
  • Projectiles now produce light.
