Roxcalibur is a craftable Hardmode broadsword that can also be found in Pre-Hardmode, though the sword cannot be swung until the Wall of Flesh is defeated.

When used, the sword is charged up and held over the player's head. Releasing will cause one of two attacks to occur depending on the position of the mouse.

If the mouse is located in the top half of the screen, the sword is swung forward, releasing rock shards as it is swung. This swing can deal up to 250% of the weapon's damage depending on how long it is charged up for. If the mouse is instead in the bottom half of the screen, the player slam downwards with the sword. Hitting an enemy with the slam will deal damage and cause the player to rebound upwards. This slam can deal up to 350% of the weapon's damage depending on how long it is charged up for.

It can be found naturally in the world, in a random location within the Underground, Cavern, or Underworld layers, and it can be harvested with any pickaxe. Only one Roxcalibur generates per world.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes

  • The tile form of Roxcalibur is highlighted by Spelunker Potions, Wulfrum Treasure Pingers, and other treasure-highlighting items, which may aid in finding it.
    • However, it does not show up on the Metal Detector nor any of its upgrades.
  • The Roxcalibur tile can only generate in the Purity Underground, Purity Caverns, The Underworld, the Underground Jungle, or the Dungeon. It will not generate in any other underground biomes, such as the Underground Desert, Snow, Abyss, etc.
  • The Roxcalibur tile has a strong tendency to generate on the far left side of the world. The likelihood if its placement decreases proportionally with distance from the world's left edge.
  • Roxcalibur can be used with the Rubblemaker's large mode to place its tile form.
  • By Shimmering a Roxcalibur, it is possible to obtain Souls of Night and Essences of Havoc in Pre-Hardmode. This allows several items normally exclusive to Hardmode to be crafted in Pre-Hardmode instead, including the Mechanical Worm, which allows The Destroyer to be fought (and potentially defeated) far earlier than intended.
    • Doing this allows for even more extreme progression-skipping steps to be taken, ultimately allowing the player to beat the Calamity Mod without ever killing the Wall of Flesh to progress into Hardmode. For more info, see Guide:Skipping Wall of Flesh.

Trivia

  • This weapon's functionality was coded by the dedicatee, Javyz.
  • This weapon's name is a portmanteau of "Rock" and "Excalibur".
    • In popular culture based on the Arthurian legend, Excalibur was a sword embedded in a stone, and it was said that only the true king could remove the sword from the stone. The joke with Roxcalibur is, as explained by the item's flavor text, that the player character is seemingly not the true king, so they "couldn't get it out of the rock". Thus, they "just brought the rock instead".
    • In the vanilla game, two weapons are based on the Excalibur legend: Excalibur and the Enchanted Sword. Most notably, the latter is depicted as a sword in a stone, and several "fake" Enchanted Sword ambient objects can generate throughout the world. Roxcalibur's generation method works by directly replacing one of these fake Enchanted Sword objects with the Roxcalibur object instead.
  • During the generation of the Roxcalibur in world creation, the message reads "I wanna rock.". This is a reference to the 1984 heavy metal song of the same name by the band Twisted Sister.

History

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • 2.0.3.007:
    • Reworked:
      • Buffed damage from 150 to 180 and use time from 64 to 40, but nerfed shot speed from 10 to 4.
      • No longer performs a normal broadsword swing while firing rock shards on left click, or performs a slam on right click.
      • Now has a custom swing animation, and holding down left click charges up an overhead swing of the sword. Releasing left click performs a different attack based on the cursor's position.
      • If the cursor is above the player, the sword is swung forward, releasing rock shards and dealing up to 250% base damage.
      • If the cursor is below the player, the player slams downwards with the sword, bouncing off struck enemies and dealing up to 350% base damage.
  • 2.0.3.001:
    • Buffed use time from 72 to 64. The shockwave now grants 10 local immunity frames.
    • Can now be used to place its ambient object with the Rubblemaker.
  • 2.0.2.001:
    • Nerfed damage from 200 to 150 and use time from 45 to 72.

  • 1.5.1.001:
