The Mantis Claws are a Hardmode melee weapon that is dropped by Mantis Shrimps after Plantera has been defeated. When used, they swing extremely fast at a short range, creating a visual explosion and inflicting the Hellfire debuff on hit.

Their best modifier is Legendary.

Trivia

• The explosion effect is a reference to real-life mantis shrimp, and how their claws attack their prey with such speed and force that it creates a tiny vacuum called a cavitation bubble between the claw and the striking surface, the sudden collapse of which creates a shockwave as water rushes to fill in this gap. This explosion causes their targets to be hit twice: once from the claw itself and then a second time from the following explosion, similarly to the in-game weapon (although the in-game explosion does not deal any damage).
• The word "shrimple" in the weapon's tooltip is a pun on the words "shrimp" and "simple".

  • Reworked:
    • Nerfed damage from 144 to 75, use time from 8 to 25, and knockback from 7 to 0.25.
    • No longer functions like a broadsword that creates visual explosions on hit.
    • Now spawns slash projectiles that curve outwards and linger for a short time, inflicting Heavy Bleeding for 3 seconds on hit.
    • Using right-click channels a bubble in front of the player. After 1 second, claws snap down on the bubble, firing a fast water jet that deals 650% base damage and is guaranteed to critically strike.
  • Decreased sell price from 9  60 to 9 .

• 2.0.3.002: Added a flavor tooltip.
