Not to be confused with Deathstare Rod, a summon weapon that is dropped by the Eye of Cthulhu.

The Eye of Night is a craftable Pre-Hardmode summon weapon. When used, it summons a tiny floating eyeball that moves erratically above the player. When an enemy is nearby, the eye orbits around it and fires cells which stick to enemies and damage them twice. Up to 4 cells can be stuck to an enemy at a time.

Its best modifier is Ruthless. The Mythical modifier provides the widest array of stat bonuses, but these primarily affect the initial summon rather than the resulting minion. Additionally, minions cannot deal critical hits. The only lasting advantage a Mythical Eye of Night has over a Ruthless one is knockback.

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • Now has an alternate recipe using Scab Ripper instead of Vile Feeder.
  • Can now only attack through tiles while a boss is alive.
    • Buffed damage from 24 to 28, but it no longer inflicts Cursed Inferno.
    • Moved Staff of Necrosteocytes and Belladonna Spirit Staff below Vile Feeder in its recipe.
    • Now uses 10 Purified Gel in its recipe.
    • Nerfed damage from 28 to 24.
    • Now requires an Altar to craft instead of an Anvil.
    • Nerfed damage from 35 to 28.
    • Minion cell projectile now pierces once instead of infinitely, no longer explodes, and it grants enemies 90 local immunity frames instead of 19.
    • Reduced the maximum amount of cells stuck on an enemy at once from 10 to 4.
    • The minion can no longer deal contact damage.
