The Hydra is a craftable Hardmode ranged weapon. When used, it fires a spread of 4 toxic bullets which inflicts the Acid Venom debuff upon contact. While the weapon is in use, it will summon a gun-head every 3 seconds, up to a maximum of 3 gun-heads can exist at a time. Holding left-click will cause all existing gun-heads to fire at once. Holding right-click will launch the gun-heads towards the cursor which explodes when it collides with tiles or enemies. The launched gun and its explosion deal 300% damage and inflict the Galvanic Corrosion debuff.

Its best modifier is Unreal.

  • The functionality and flavor tooltip reference the Lernaean Hydra, a monster in Greek Mythology described by its venomous blood and ability to regenerate heads.
  • The weapon is a reference to the gun of the same name from the game Resident Evil 5.

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • 2.0.3.001: Decreased firing volume by 10% with 1 additional head, 25% with 2 additional heads, and 36% with 3 additional heads.
  • 2.0.2.001:
    • Reworked:
      • Nerfed damage from 120 to 44 and use time from 33 to 66.
      • Now uses Bullets as ammo and deals ranged damage instead of typeless.
      • While holding the weapon, an extra gun grows every three seconds, up to a maximum of three extra guns.
      • Left-clicking makes the weapon and any existing extra guns fire 4 non-piercing bullets which inflict Acid Venom for 5 seconds.
      • Right-clicking causes any extra guns to be thrown towards the cursor, exploding on impact with enemies or solid tiles, dealing 300% base damage.
    • Now uses a Quad-Barrel Shotgun, 25 Nanites and 25 Vials of Venom in its recipe instead of Shotgun, Illegal Gun Parts, 20 Any Iron Bars, and 20 Ectoplasm.
  • 2.0.0.003: Fixed it missing research support.
  • 1.5.1.001:
    • Moved Illegal Gun Parts above Any Iron Bar in the recipe.
    • No longer does more damage to organic and inorganic enemies.
  • 1.4.2.104: Projectiles now make sounds upon hitting blocks.
