The Stygian Shield is a craftable Hardmode melee weapon. While the item is held, the user gains 16 defense and immunity to knockback, at the cost of being unable to perform dashes. They are able to regain the ability to dash after holding another item for at least 1.5 seconds.

Holding left-click for at least 0.25 seconds charges up a dash which is aimed towards the cursor, indicated by a white arrow. Releasing gives its user immunity frames and initiates the dash which lasts for 0.35 seconds, damaging any enemies upon contact. Holding for longer linearly increases the damage, distance, and immunity frames given from dashing up to a maximum of 600% damage, 45 tiles, and 21 immunity frames when holding for one second.

Pressing right-click throws up to two shields which return to the player after 0.5 seconds and can be autofired. Upon contact with a tile or an enemy, it is able to bounce towards another enemy within a 40-tile radius. The thrown shield is able to infinitely pierce as it returns. Each enemy hit with the shield while it is returning, as well as hits from the dash reduce the damage of subsequent hits by 40%. Only one shield can be thrown at a time.

Its best modifier is Godly. It cannot get modifiers that affect size.




  • If the destination of the dash is outside the map, the dash will be cancelled upon releasing and the arrow turns red as indication.



These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
    • Added new sounds for dash charge, dash, dash hit, shield throw, and shield catch.
    • Nerfed damage from 250 to 180, but buffed charge's maximum damage modifier from 400% to 600%.
    • Decreased the maximum charge-up time from 1 second to 0.75 and maximum charge distance from 50 tiles to 45, and it now always grants the player 21 immunity frames instead of 6-21 depending on how long it was charged up.
    • Right click now auto-fires and can throw out 2 shields at once, and the shields now return to the player 33.33% faster.
    • Buffed damage from 200 to 250, but decreased maximum dash damage from 600% base damage to 400%.
    • Now grants 16 defense while held instead of 12, and gives up to 9 more immunity frames from its dash.
    • Dashes are now disabled for 1.5 seconds after not being held instead of 2.
