The Plasma Caster is a craftable post-Moon Lord magic gun. When used with the primary fire (left-click), it slowly fires a plasma bolt that does not pierce and create a large explosion on hit. When used with the secondary fire (right-click), the bolts are fired three times faster, deal one third of the damage, cost one third as much mana, and have lower accuracy.

The weapon consumes 0.32 and 0.12 units of charge per use in primary-fire and secondary-fire respectively and has a maximum charge of 190. As such, the primary-fire can be used continuously from full charge for 593 times, or 7 minutes and 25 seconds. The secondary-fire can be used continuously for 1583 times, or 6 minutes and 36 seconds.

Its best modifier is Mythical.



The Plasma Caster cannot be crafted until the Encrypted Schematic from the Underworld Bio-center Lab is decrypted. If the requirement has not been met, two lines of tooltip are added at the bottom of the item:

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • Increased sell price from 24 Gold Coin to 30 Gold Coin.
  • Buffed explosion radius from 2.8125 tiles to 7.5.
  • No longer inflicts On Fire! or Cursed Inferno.
    • No longer deals increased damage based on enemy defense, and updated tooltip to reflect this.
    • Now inflicts Cursed Inferno for 1.5 seconds instead of 3, and On Fire! for 3 seconds instead of 6.
    • Nerfed damage from 1100 to 705.
    • Fixed an issue that caused it to lose its charge when reforged.
  • Depletion of charge is no longer random, it now consumes 0.32 charge when its left click is used, and 0.12 charge when its right click is used.
    • Now obtainable.
    • No longer consumes bullets, and now consumes mana.
