The Hellborn is a Hardmode gun that is dropped by the Brimstone Elemental. The gun fires three to five bullets per shot in an uneven spread. If Musket Balls are used as ammo, they are transformed into explosive bullets that can damage the player. The gun itself also deals contact damage to enemies, a unique property for a ranged weapon that it shares with the Helstorm. If the gun touches an enemy, a massive explosion is created, and the gun gains increased damage, fire rate, and knockback for 10 seconds. The contact damage from the gun is three times greater than the damage of the bullets. Enemies that take contact damage from the gun will be inflicted with the Hellfire debuff.

Its best modifier is Unreal.

Notes

  • As the gun's hitbox does not change based on aim, it will not always hit enemies that pass through the sprite.
  • When dealing contact damage with the gun itself, the damage type is still Ranged.

History

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • 2.0.2.001:
    • Buffed damage from 7 to 20 but nerfed explosion damage from 500% base damage to 300%.
    • Now inflicts Hellfire instead of On Fire!.
  • 2.0.1.001: Fixed its explosion bonus increasing use time instead of decreasing it as intended.
  • 1.5.1.001:
    • Now drops from Brimstone Elemental at a 10% chance in all difficulties instead of 100% Malice Mode.
    • Nerfed damage from 14 to 7 and use time from 10 to 15.
    • No longer considered a fire weapon.
  • 1.5.0.001:
    • Nerfed damage from 18 to 14 and use time from 9 to 10. Decreased contact damage modifier from 15x to 10x.
    • Contact explosions now increase the weapon's base damage, fire rate, and knockback by 600% for 10 seconds. The contact damage explosion effect decays over 10 seconds. Performing a contact explosion while the boost is decaying will reset the boost to 600%.
    • Now only converts Musket Balls.
    • Now drops from Brimstone Elemental in Malice Mode instead of Devil Fish after defeating Golem. Increased drop rate from 0.5% to 100% Malice Mode.
    • Now has a custom - Challenge Item - (#FF8C00 ●) tag instead of using the Rarity level: Rare Variant rarity.
    • Resprited.
  • 1.4.2.103: Decreased holdout's On Fire! duration from 6.67 seconds to 6.
