The Elemental Shiv is a craftable post-Moon Lord shortsword that autoswings. It fires a homing projectile that can pass through blocks but cannot pierce enemies. Once these projectiles impact an enemy, three magical shivs are summoned off-screen to the left and right-side of the player, flying towards the hit enemy. As with the initial projectile, the summoned shivs will pierce blocks and home in on enemies. The initial projectile will fire horizontally to the right or left, until enemies are nearby, which will cause the shots to curve into the enemy. All projectiles inflict the Elemental Mix debuff.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

  • In previous versions of the mod, this weapon was a direct upgrade to the now-removed Terra Shiv.


These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
    • Nerfed damage from 190 to 138.
    • Projectiles now home towards the closest enemy instead of the earliest enemy in the NPC array.
    • Increased sell price from 22 Gold Coin to 24 Gold Coin.
    • The shortsword now grants -1 local immunity frames instead of 8.
    • Now inflicts Elemental Mix for 1 seconds from the shortsword, and 0.5 seconds from projectiles.
    • The shortsword now grants 8 local immunity frames.
    • Fixed it not being able to receive size modifiers.
    • Nerfed use time from 10 to 13.

    • Buffed damage from 168 to 190 but reduced beam projectile's effective velocity from 14 to 4.8, and decreased the time the main projectile exists for by 50% and the secondary projectiles by 85%.
    • Now only receives 33% of melee swing speed bonuses.
    • Can now be used in any direction.
    • Removed the "Don't underestimate the …" flavor text.
    • Drastically decreased the amount of dust it creates.
  • Now uses Starlight in its recipe instead of Terra Shiv.
    • Projectiles now inflict Brimstone Flames, Frostburn, and Holy Flames for 1.5 seconds instead of 2.
    • No longer inflicts Plague.
    • Buffed damage from 160 to 168.
    • No longer inflicts Glacial State and now inflicts Frostburn for 2 seconds.
    • Nerfed damage from 180 to 160. Projectiles now travel from both sides of the screen instead of just the left side.
    • Fixed its secondary projectiles targeting the upper left corner of enemies rather than the center.
  • Projectiles are now briefly invisible upon spawning.
    • Buffed damage from 140 to 150.
    • Beams now have afterimages.
    • Decreased Brimstone Flames, Glacial State, Holy Flames, and Plague durations from 8.33 seconds to 2.
