Use

The Polaris Parrotfish is a Hardmode ranged weapon that can be fished up in the Astral Infection. When used, it rapidly fires pink and blue lasers that vanish in a star-shaped flash after traveling a fixed distance or upon hitting enemies or tiles. It will not fire if two lasers already exist.

Its best modifier is Unreal.

Notes

  • In the Get fixed boi seed, Polaris Parrotfish receives several changes:
    • Adds a secondary fire (Right Click) to pet the fish, causing a squeak sound and a pop-up text ^-^, as well as one of the following status messages:
      • "You give Polaris belly rubs"
      • "You give Polaris a small treat"
      • "You tell Polaris she's a good girl"
      • "You let Polaris cuddle your arm"
      • "You pet Polaris"
    • Petting doubles the fire rate of the weapon. Each attack has a 1% chance for the effect to wear off, signaled by a squeak sound and a pop-up text >~<.
    • Petting while already happy has a 2% chance for the player to be inflicted with the Obstructed debuff, causing two sounds and a status message "Too much love...". The player is then surrounded by 50 Astral CrystalAstral Crystals which damage the player for 1000 / 2000 Expert Mode / 3000 Master Mode damage.
    • The last line of the tooltip is replaced with the following:
Right click to give the little girl some attention
      'She is a happy girl'

Tips

  • As there can only be two lasers at a time, being closer to targets causes the projectiles to hit sooner, thus increasing the fire rate.

Trivia

  • The Polaris Parrotfish is a reference to the "Polar Star" gun from the game Cave Story. The last line of the tooltip is directly quoted from its tooltip in Cave Story.
    • The firing sound is a modified version of the Level 3 Polar Star's firing sound, and the squeaking sound is a generic hurt sound from Cave Story.
    • The older version of the weapon getting more powerful as hits are landed without being hit was somewhat reminiscent of Cave Story's weapon EXP mechanic. In it, weapons level up when enough EXP crystals are picked up, but the equipped weapon loses EXP when getting hit, and can level down.
    • The Get fixed boi version of the weapon uses a common squeaking sound found throughout Cave Story.
  • Additionally, the name is a reference to Polaris, also known as the North Star.
  • In the Get fixed boi seed, the Dragoon Drizzlefish and Polaris Parrotfish both cause sound effects and pop-up text when fed or petted. Their tooltips also suggest they are counterparts: the former is a "hungry boy", and the latter is a "happy girl".
