The Mantis Shrimp is a Hardmode enemy that spawns in the Ocean biome. It walks along the ground and chases the player. When hitting them, it will release an explosion which is purely visual and deals no damage.
After Plantera has been defeated, the Mantis Shrimp will occasionally drop the Mantis Claws, a claw-like melee weapon that mimics its main attack.
Notes
- With its extremely high contact damage, it can kill most characters with one hit in Expert or Master Mode.
- Because it is small and can kill a player with one to two hits, caution is advised when exploring the ocean in Hardmode.
Trivia
- The Bestiary entry for the Mantis Shrimp: "Though a variety of answers are given when one asks adventurers about dangerous creatures, few aside from sailors will mention the small yet mighty Mantis Shrimp. Their strikes are so swift that the energy generated from them heats the water to temperatures rivaling the magma of Azafure."
- Similarly to real Mantis shrimps, their claws are extremely powerful for their size and can easily kill their prey in one hit.
- The Mantis Shrimp has the highest contact damage of all non-boss enemies.
