“Do you enjoy going through hell?
— Supreme Witch, Calamitas
Supreme Witch, Calamitas is a post-Moon Lord boss that can be fought after defeating Yharon, Dragon of Rebirth, and intended to be fought around the same time as the Exo Mechs. She is currently one of the most challenging bosses in the Calamity Mod.
Defeating her will cause her to move in as the Brimstone Witch Town NPC, granting players access to the Enchantment mechanic.
Spawn
Supreme Witch, Calamitas does not spawn on her own and requires the player to summon her with the Altar of the Accursed, which uses Ashes of Calamity or the Ceremonial Urn; upon using said items at the Altar, the screen will darken, shake, and become tinted red before Supreme Witch, Calamitas herself appears above the Altar. The Ceremonial Urn is reusable, so Supreme Witch, Calamitas may be summoned any number of times. When Supreme Witch, Calamitas is fully summoned, she will laugh devilishly instead of using the regular boss roar. Supreme Witch, Calamitas can be fought in any biome at any time.
If the Brimstone Witch NPC is currently alive in the world, she will disappear when Supreme Witch, Calamitas is summoned.
Behavior
Upon spawning, Calamitas will create a 159x159 (inner available area is 157x157) square arena made of mostly unbreakable Arena Blocks. Leaving it will cause Calamitas to enrage, significantly increasing the velocity of all of her attacks and giving her 99% irreducible damage reduction.
Supreme Witch, Calamitas has several powerful attacks that she will switch between in a consistent cycle. She always remains either directly above or to the side of the player, only breaking position during Bullet Hell phases or during her devastating dash attacks.
Visually, Calamitas is always protected by a circular red force field, which serves to increase the size of her hitbox.
Attacks
While Supreme Witch, Calamitas is mobile, she will switch between these attacks in a well defined cycle.
- She condenses her force field into a demonic skull and charges at the player at an incredibly high speed, dealing massive damage. This occurs either 2 or 4 times in a row, depending on the position in the cycle.
- At the start of the attack prior to charging, she will become translucent as a warning.
- Once she enters her second phase, she will charge half as many times in a row.
- She attempts to hover above the player, shooting bursts of 8
Brimstone Darts at the player, leaving similar-sized gaps between the projectiles. She performs either 3 or 4 bursts during an attack.
- Some of the bursts are randomly replaced with firing a
Brimstone Fireblast or a
Brimstone Gigablast. This is the only occurence of randomness in her attack pattern.
- Brimstone Fireblasts home in on the player and explode into a ring of 8 / 12
/ 14
/ 16
Brimstone Darts after some time or on contact with blocks. Brimstone Gigablasts follow a similar behavior, but are slower and explode into a much larger ring of 20 / 28
/ 32
/ 36
Brimstone Darts.
- Some of the bursts are randomly replaced with firing a
- She remains at the player's side and launches either 2 or 4 Brimstone Gigablasts (depending on the position in the cycle) with a constant delay between them.
- She remains at the player's side and fires a barrage of
Brimstone Hellblasts, which accelerate towards the player. She shoots the Hellblasts horizontally once she has taken her position to the left/right of the player - however, she can already start shooting while in the process of homing towards this position. This can cause bullets to fly in non-horizontal directions.
Once she enters her second phase at 40% HP, the delays between her attacks as well as inside her attacks become shorter; she charges more aggressively and only half as often per attack.
Attack Cycle
Supreme Witch, Calamitas has a constant attack cycle which only interrupts when she is not attacking at all. Neither going through bullet-hell phases, nor switching to her second phase changes the current position in this cycle. It repeats once it is finished.
The attack cycle (starting as soon as the first Sepulcher is summoned):
- Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts
- Shoots a horizontal barrage of Brimstone Hellblasts
- Launches 2 Brimstone Gigablasts
- Charges 4 times (2 times in the second phase)
- Launches 2 Brimstone Gigablasts
- Shoots a horizontal barrage of Brimstone Hellblasts
- Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts
- Charges 2 times (once in the second phase)
- Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts
- Shoots a horizontal barrage of Brimstone Hellblasts
- Launches 4 Brimstone Gigablasts
- Shoots a horizontal barrage of Brimstone Hellblasts
- Charges 2 times (once in the second phase)
- Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts
- Launches 4 Brimstone Gigablasts
- Charges 4 times (2 times in the second phase)
- Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts
- Charges 2 times (once in the second phase)
- Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts
- Charges 2 times (once in the second phase)
Note that every time she shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts, some bursts are replaced by Brimstone Fire- and Gigablasts.
Since it is a relatively long cycle with multiple occurences of every type of attack, it is time consuming to fully memorize and comprehend it. Whilst it is not necessary to do so, it proves beneficial when playing in harder difficulties and/or with special constraints.
Progression
Supreme Witch, Calamitas will perform these attacks once, triggered by her reaching certain amounts of health.
- Upon spawning, she will summon a randomized "Bullet Hell" of vertical and horizontal Brimstone Hellblasts which travel from one edge of the player's screen to the other. She will be invincible and immobile until the Bullet Hell ends. The sequence of the Hellblasts' direction will always be the same during the Bullet Hell: down/right/left simultanously, then left and right, then down/left/right again.
After the Bullet Hell ends, she will teleport to the upper-right corner of the arena and summon the Sepulcher to assist her before becoming mobile. Ten immobile Brimstone Hearts will spawn along with it, positioned in the upper corners of the arena. When the last of these hearts are destroyed, the Sepulcher will die. The Sepulcher doesn't deal contact damage but instead shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts in diagonal directions from its body segments (in descending order; from last to first segment). Calamitas will be invincible until the Sepulcher is killed.- While the Sepulcher is alive, Calamitas will shoot slower and only fire half as many projectiles per attack.
- Upon reaching 75% health, the second Bullet Hell triggers, in which Brimstone Fireblasts are also fired at the player from offscreen. This occurs in every Bullet Hell hereafter. The order of the Hellblasts' direction is up, then right, then left and right simultaneously.
- Upon reaching 50% health, the third Bullet Hell triggers, in which Brimstone Gigablasts are also fired at the player along with the previous projectiles. This occurs in every Bullet Hell hereafter. The order of the Hellblasts' direction is down, then left, then left and right simultaneously.
- Upon reaching 45% health, she will pause briefly and then summon her brothers, Supreme Catastrophe and Supreme Cataclysm, to assist her. Calamitas will be invincible and immobile while they are alive. They both remain a set distance to the left and right of the player, slowly moving up and down. Supreme Cataclysm is on the right and will fire
fists at the player, and Supreme Catastrophe is on the left and will fire
slashes at the player. Both will periodically shoot rings of 8 / 12
/ 14
/ 16
Brimstone Darts around themselves; their fire rate for all attacks goes up as they lose health. When one of the brothers is killed, the other will shoot his respective projectile and Brimstone Darts even more frequently, and will move up and down faster. When both brothers are killed, Calamitas immediately resumes attacking the player.
- Upon reaching 40% health, she laughs and transitions into her second phase, signified by a glowing aura around her and her attack animations becoming more pronounced. From now on, she will attack faster, but perform half as many charge attacks in a row. Immediately after transitioning, she will always shoot several bursts of Brimstone Darts before resuming her attack cycle from the last position.
- From this point on, her force field will visibly start flickering, with the intensity of the flickering growing as she loses health.
- Upon reaching 30% health, the fourth Bullet Hell triggers, and Supreme Witch, Calamitas will summon 2
/ 4
massive invincible
Brimstone Monsters which move towards the player at varying speeds and persist throughout the rest of the fight (they despawn after 10 minutes, but the fight does not last this long under normal circumstances). The Monsters do not interact and can stack on top of each other. The order of the Hellblasts' direction is up, then right, then left and right simultaneously.
- During this Bullet Hell and in all following ones, the number of Brimstone Hellblasts is noticeably decreased.
- Upon reaching 20% health, she will summon a large rotating ring of 20 Supreme Soul Seekers around herself, which fire synchronous volleys of Brimstone Darts at the player. Supreme Witch, Calamitas is invulnerable to damage and the Brimstone Monsters move slower until the Soul Seekers are killed.
- Upon reaching 10% health, the fifth and final Bullet Hell triggers, featuring every projectile introduced thus far, with the inclusion of
Brimstone Flame Skulls which fly in a horizontal wave pattern. The order of the Hellblasts' direction is down, then left and right, then down/left/right simultaneously.
- Her damage reduction increases by 20% (from 25% to 30%) for the remainder of the battle.
- Upon reaching 8% health, she will summon the Sepulcher and its 10 Brimstone Hearts again. Supreme Witch, Calamitas will once again become invulnerable until its hearts are killed.
- Upon reaching 1% health or 5% health during a rematch, she will lose all her other abilities, the Brimstone Monsters and most of her projectiles will disappear, she will teleport to the Altar of the Accursed and stop moving, she will no longer inflict contact damage, and she becomes invulnerable. After several status messages and a delay, Calamitas will vanish in a beam of red light and reappear at the Altar of the Accursed as the Brimstone Witch NPC, leaving her loot at the Altar.
In Revengeance Mode
- Massively increased speed and moves far more aggressively.
In Death Mode
- The arena created by Supreme Witch, Calamitas is now 127x127 (inner available area is 125x125) blocks.
During the Boss Rush
- All boss dialogue is omitted and she will always use her hooded appearance.
- Significantly increased speed, aggression, and projectile density.
- Brimstone Fireblasts and Gigablasts explode into 20 and 44 Brimstone Darts respectively.
- Cataclysm and Catastrophe fire 20 Brimstone Darts per burst.
- Instead of reverting to the Brimstone Witch upon defeat, the player will be prompted to finish her off.
On the For the worthy seed
- Moves 15% faster.
- Spawns up to 20% more projectiles during Bullet Hell phases.

Notes
- Each Bullet Hell segment lasts for an exact 15 seconds.

- Only Catastrophe's slashes deal defense damage, while Cataclysm's fists do not.
Tips
- For more elaborate strategies on defeating Supreme Witch, Calamitas, including weapon and arena recommendations, see Guide:Supreme Witch, Calamitas strategies.
- Making an arena can potentially increase mobility, which is useful for dodging Supreme Witch, Calamitas' fast attacks.
- Calamitas' dash is fast and can sometimes deal fatal damage, so it's recommended to attack with weapons that have decent range and/or homing ability which will make it easier to dodge her dashes. Watch for her tell when she's about to use it as her next attack.
- Don't bother trying to attack Calamitas during the Bullet Hell phases or when the Sepulcher and its Brimstone Hearts are still alive. She will be immune to damage during them.
- Try to master the first Bullet Hell phase. The projectiles are significantly denser in this phase compared to the others, so it's better to take as little damage as possible in the first attack.
- During the first Bullet Hell phase, do not panic and move about too much as the blasts in this phase are extremely deadly and occasionally spawn in groups. Getting hit during this phase could potentially lead to the player's early demise.
- During Bullet Hell phases, it's good in some cases to stick to a wall when the projectiles are only moving from one side, as it may be easier to dodge them. Be sure to watch out for the Fireblasts and Gigablasts that home in on the player.
- It is recommended to move vertically before a bullet hell ends to prevent getting hit by Supreme Witch, Calamitas' projectiles as she resumes her attacks.
- Fly in the direction of the Brimstone Hellblasts Supreme Witch, Calamitas spawns during her Bullet Hell phases and be sure to fly slowly. This will help prevent the player from being hit by unnoticed projectiles or dashing/running into them.
- If Supreme Witch, Calamitas' brothers are alive and the player is at low health, it may be advisable to delay attacking the brothers and heal. Especially when only one is alive, many of the projectiles are simple to dodge, so it may prove as a good opportunity to regenerate health or even wait for Rage or Adrenaline to charge up in Revengeance Mode.
- If the player is confident in their ability to avoid damage, it's helpful to save up Rage or Adrenaline specifically for the phases where Supreme Witch, Calamitas summons minions in order to end the phases quickly. Using them on Supreme Witch, Calamitas herself will often result in her going invulnerable and progressing to the next phase, wasting much of the increased damage.
- At the end of each Bullet Hell phase, all of Supreme Witch, Calamitas' projectiles spawned during the phase will fade out and disappear. While fading out, these projectiles will not deal damage.
- Defeating the Exo Mechs and using the weapons that drop from them is a potential last resort should the player be struggling too much. If the player has already challenged the Exo Mechs prior to Calamitas, then their drops are typically fantastic options for her fight.
Trivia
- The song heard during the battle against Supreme Witch, Calamitas is Stained, Brutal Calamity, which was composed by the artist DM DOKURO. This song contains full lyrics sung by a choir as well as DM DOKURO himself. Different sections of the song play as the fight progresses (at 100% / 50% / 30% / 1% boss health), each section representing a different perspective of the fight.
- The version that plays in-game is slightly modified in order for the track to loop properly:
- "Grief" plays from the start of the battle to the third Bullet Hell.
- "Lament" plays from the third Bullet Hell until the fourth.
- "Epiphany" plays from the fourth Bullet Hell until she stops attacking.
- "Acceptance" plays when she stops attacking.
- Grief and Lament represents Supreme Witch, Calamitas' and the player's view points respectively, Epiphany represents a 3rd voice, and Acceptance represents Supreme Witch, Calamitas' defeat.
- The video for this song features Alice Kensington, also known as OtherButtons, as a voice actress for Supreme Witch, Calamitas.
- Despite not being composed with the same gimmick as Raw, Unfiltered Calamity, the theme contains a few motifs from past themes in Calamity's soundtrack.
- The majority of the song contains motifs from Raw, Unfiltered Calamity (Calamitas Clone), Now Stop Asking Where (a previous placeholder theme) and The Step Below Hell / Left Alone (Brimstone Crag / Brimstone Elemental).
- The theme also contains motifs from two of DM DOKURO's older songs, which are not related to the Calamity Mod.
- If the Calamity Music add-on mod is disabled, Boss 2 replaces Grief, Boss 3 replaces Lament, the Moon Lord's theme replaces Epiphany, and Eerie replaces Acceptance.
- Previously, her theme was a remix of the Boss 2 theme made by silentzorah. It was then changed to Calamitas' theme, Raw Unfiltered Calamity, made by DM DOKURO. It was then changed again to an original track by ENNWAY, known as Now Stop Asking Where, a reference to the fervent and frequent requests sent to DM DOKURO asking him when he would compose Supreme Witch, Calamitas' dedicated theme.
- The version that plays in-game is slightly modified in order for the track to loop properly:
- The person other than the player mentioned in some of her quotes is referring to the Jungle Tyrant, Yharim, whom she is allied to until at some point, as stated in the mod's lore.
- Supreme Witch, Calamitas is one of only two bosses to drop a Death Mode-exclusive item, the other being The Devourer of Gods.
- The sound that Brimstone Monsters continuously make while active is sampled from The Abyss from the game Hollow Knight.
- In older versions of the Calamity Mod, Supreme Witch, Calamitas had a hit-counter mechanic (better known as a "Hit Cap") where players could only be hit a certain number of times until they were killed instantly, regardless of damage taken. She would say "You got hit too many times...noice. Did you take lessons from Leviathan?" The same quote was used if the player died under the effects of Armageddon.
- The "Leviathan" mentioned in her Armageddon/hit-cap quote is a reference to the YouTuber Leviathan, who is known for his challenges and documentation about the Calamity Mod, including numerous fights against Supreme Witch, Calamitas.
- Previous versions of the mod also had Supreme Witch, Calamitas and her brothers use upgraded sprites of their eye forms instead of the humanoid ones they have now, further tying into this.
- Supreme Witch, Calamitas used to be a "Superboss" in this mod. In some RPG games, superbosses are extremely powerful enemies that are very challenging even if the player has endgame equipment.
- Supreme Witch, Calamitas' status messages have the color #FFA500 ●.
- In the previous version of the mod, Supreme Witch, Calamitas used to be unable to take any damage by any attack that would deal more than 50% of her health in one hit, such as another mod's butcher function or an incredibly powerful weapon. When hit by such an attack, the damage of the attack would be reduced to 0.
- In previous versions of the mod, if Supreme Witch, Calamitas was killed too quickly (instantly or in less than 100 seconds), she would drop no items at all except for Omega Healing Potions as well as the Levi pet in Death Mode. Additionally, she would say "Go to hell." instead of her usual quote when killed.
- If the Boss Checklist Mod is installed, her unique despawn message will be "Please don't waste my time."
Bestiary entries
- Supreme Witch, Calamitas: "The Brimstone Witch's harsh life can be seen in the magic she casts. Volatile and powerful, yet just barely refined. Her temper is said to be fiery enough to burn down a kingdom."
- Cataclysm: "Despite retaining a humanoid form, it is not capable of any higher thoughts. It only knows violence."
- Catastrophe: "Calamitas' necromancy is outmatched by no one, but no one can truly bring the departed back from the dead."
