The Mantis is a Hardmode enemy that spawns on the surface Astral Infection biome. It chases the player on the ground, gaining speed if continuously running in one direction, slowing down when turning around, and hopping if it encounters a gap in the ground or a change in elevation. If the player is on the ground and close enough, it briefly stops and fires a short-ranged spinning scythe projectile at them.


  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Mantis: "The most versatile organism born from the Astral Infection, mantises can reach incredible speeds and are equipped with claws capable of slicing through all but the most durable metals with ease. When their foes are at a distance, they are capable of condensing latent mana in the air to form bladed disks they can throw at their enemies."


These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
    • Now has 25% less health and 10% less damage in Master Mode.
    • Nerfed scythe damage pre-Astrum Aureus from 45 / 90 Expert Mode / 135 Master Mode to 45 / 70 Expert Mode / 90 Master Mode, and post-Astrum Aureus from 55 / 110 Expert Mode / 165 Master Mode to 55 / 80 Expert Mode / 102 Master Mode.
  • Decreased Astral Infection duration on contact and from scythes from 1 second to 0.75.
  • Decreased Astral Infection duration on contact and from scythes from 2 seconds to 1.
  • Now vulnerable to heat debuffs, but resistant to sickness debuffs.
    • Swapped scythe damage values before and after defeating Astrum Aureus.
    • Fixed it spawning during events.
    • Fixed it firing multiple scythe projectiles at once.
  • Moves 55% faster, jumps 20% higher, and fires projectiles 100% more often in Death Mode.
  • Fixed its death sound not playing.
  • Now inflicts Astral Infection for 2 seconds on contact.
    • Now gains increased stats, equivalent to old stat values, after defeating Astrum Aureus.
    • Now drops Astral Scythe after defeating Astrum Aureus instead of Astrum Deus.
    • Nerfed health from 510 / 1020 Expert Mode to 340 / 680 Expert Mode, contact damage from 85 / 190 Expert Mode to 55 / 110 Expert Mode, defense from 16 to 6, and knockback resistance from 90% to 80%.
    • Ring now inherits contact damage values instead of having a fixed damage value of 76, and it no longer has knockback.
    • Increased delay between when its hit sound can play.
    • Increased minimum coin drop amount from 4 Silver Coin.png 50 Copper Coin.png to 15 Silver Coin.
    • Increased volume of hit and death sounds.
    • Fixed all sounds not playing properly, including when firing their disk projectiles.
