Queen Slime is an early Hardmode Hallow boss and is intended to be the first boss the player fights after defeating the Wall of Flesh and entering Hardmode. She is not required for progression – much like her Pre-Hardmode counterpart, King Slime – but may reward the player with useful weapons and items, especially if the player has the Early Hardmode Progression Rework configuration option enabled.

The Calamity Mod makes a variety of changes to Queen Slime's AI, even outside of Revengeance and Death Mode, intended to make her boss fight more challenging but less chaotic than her original design in vanilla.

Spawn

Queen Slime can be spawned at anytime by using a Gelatin Crystal in a Hallow biome. Gelatin Crystals can be found mimicking Crystal Shards in the Underground Hallow, however, Calamity also adds a recipe for them using 20 Crystal Shards, 10 Pink Gel, and 5 Souls of Light at a Solidifier.

Behavior

Queen Slime's projectiles no longer bounce, instead dissipating upon contact with any blocks, and all of her projectiles, minions, and minions' projectiles have highly increased visibility. Minions' projectiles also have reduced vertical velocity, and she is now capable of jumping through blocks to reach her target.

In Revengeance Mode

Queen Slime behaves similarly to a normal slime, performing a high leap every four jumps, after which she will perform one or two of her special attacks. All jumps are boosted relative to the vertical distance between her and the player, increasing her jump speed and height by 3.2% every block and capping at a 100% bonus. The delay between jumps will reduce when her health drops below 80% and 60%.

Additionally, Queen Slime will occasionally teleport regardless of condition and at a faster rate. She will teleport more often if the player is hidden behind solid tiles, or is at least 20 blocks above her. She will also teleport closer to the player, and will always teleport in front of them, as well as gaining the ability to teleport mid-air if the player is high above the ground.

  • Her Regal Gel attacks now travel in straight lines indefinitely instead of arcs, and she will occasionally fire groups of two Regal Gel instead of just one in certain directions each time she performs the attack.
  • During Phase 2, Queen Slime will now constantly attempt to perform her two special attacks with nearly no downtime. When she is brought under 40% health, she gains two new attacks, replacing her Queenly Smash.
    • Queenly Smash V2 is effectively the same, but Queen Slime will release indefinitely traveling Crystal Spikes to the left and right of herself as she falls until she hits solid blocks. These are similar to those released by her Crystal Slime minions, but are unaffected by gravity.
    • Queenly Smash V3 is identical to Queenly Smash V1, but releases an arc of indefinitely traveling Crystal Spikes around herself upon hitting the ground, in a similar pattern to the Crystal Slimes'.
  • Furthermore, Queen Slime releases almost no minions during Phase 2, and will release exclusively flying Heavenly Slimes when under 40%.

In Death Mode

  • Queen Slime can now perform three or four special attacks after each high leap, instead of just one or two, as well as being more likely to perform three or four than one or two.
  • She will also always perform a teleport before performing her special attacks, and will always attempt to teleport in front of the player depending on their current velocity, teleporting above them if they are not moving or are in the air.
  • Her attacks are overall more aggressive and performed faster in both phases, and tend to have more projectiles per attack.

Tips

For more elaborate strategies on defeating Queen Slime, including weapon and arena recommendations, see Guide:Queen Slime strategies.
  • The player should take note to kill as many of her minions as possible, especially before transitioning her to Phase 2, to make sure they have plenty of space to move, as her minions can quickly clutter the arena.
  • Staying a decent distance away from Queen Slime, especially during the latter half of Phase 2, can be incredibly helpful in giving the player time to dodge all of her projectiles.
