"Given time, these gelatinous creatures absorb each other and slowly grow in both size and strength."
King Slime is a Pre-Hardmode boss. He is intended to be one of the first bosses fought by the player and is considered to be the weakest of all of the bosses. Fighting him is completely optional and not required for game progression, but his defeat may reward the player with money and useful items.
While in Revengeance and Death Mode, King Slime gains several changes to his AI such as an additional boost to his mobility and a boss servant which attacks the player from a distance.
Spawn
King Slime can be spawned by fulfilling any of these conditions:
- Naturally (albeit very rarely) on grass at the far left or far right of the map.
- Naturally by defeating 150 slimes during a Slime Rain.
- Using a Slime Crown.
Behavior
King Slime can now jump through blocks to reach his target. He cannot deal contact damage unless he is jumping or falling.
In Revengeance Mode
King Slime behaves similarly to a slime, performing a high leap every 4 jumps. All jumps are boosted relative to the vertical distance between the slime and the player, increasing his jump speed and height by 3.2% every block and capping at a 100% bonus. The delay between jumps will reduce when his health drops below 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, and 10%.
Additionally, King Slime will occasionally teleport regardless of condition and at a faster rate. He will teleport more often if the player is hidden behind solid tiles or is at least 20 blocks above him. He will also teleport closer to the player, and will always teleport in front of them, as well as gaining the ability to teleport mid-air if the player is high above the ground. There is a 0.25 second delay between every teleport and jump.
When 5% of his health is lost, the next hit from the player will spawn 1-3 of the following slimes:
As his HP lowers, he will begin to summon stronger and stronger slimes. These HP thresholds are 85%, 70%, 60%, 55%, 40%, 12.5% and 5.5%.
Spiked Slimes are twice as likely to be dropped. During the rain, Umbrella Slimes have a 10% chance to replace any of the above slimes. Umbrella Slimes have a 20% chance to be replaced with a Rainbow Slime while in Hardmode. Pinky can also replace the other slimes with a 1% chance.
When King Slime drops to 75% of his health, he jumps farther, and Spiked Slimes become four times as likely to be dropped compared to the other slimes.
When King Slime drops to 50% of his health, he summons a Ruby Jewel. The jewel hovers above the player and pursues them, firing
Jewel Bolts every second until the end of the fight. If the player kills the Ruby Jewel, King Slime will teleport faster and gain increased horizontal and vertical speed.
In Death Mode
- The Ruby Jewel fires every 1.25 seconds, but number of bolts fired increased from one to four.
- King Slime is three times as large, and has a smaller minimal size.
- King Slime jumps farther and falls faster.
- King Slime takes half as much time to teleport if the player is hidden behind solid tiles or is at least 20 blocks above him.
- Now only spawns Yellow Slimes, Spiked Slimes, and Spiked Ice Slimes when he loses 5% of his health. It will additionally start spawning Spiked Jungle Slimes at 50% health.
- Under 30% health, he will only do short hops.
In Master Mode
- King Slime has increased jump and fall speed.
- King Slime has faster horizontal speed and acceleration.
- King Slime decelerates slower when landing from a jump.
- Chance to spawn Spiked Slimes is doubled.
In Revengeance Master Mode
- Has increased horizontal speed while jumping.
- King Slime's threshold for teleporting is halved and teleports faster.
- Can now only spawn Spiked Jungle Slimes and Spiked Ice Slimes.
- At 70% health, he summons an
Emerald Jewel which hovers above the player for 1.5 seconds before slowing down and spinning up to charge at the player. This charge predicts player movement.
- Ruby Bolts have increased speed.
- At 30% health, he summons a
Sapphire Jewel which hovers above King Slime. King Slime gains 1.5x damage and 2x defense while it is alive.
In Death Master Mode
- Emerald Jewel now only spins up for 0.67 seconds.
- Ruby Bolt spread further increased from four to five.
On the For the worthy seed

Tips
- For more elaborate strategies on defeating King Slime, including weapon and arena recommendations, see Guide:King Slime strategies.
- Simply making a large flat area and running in one direction with at least Hermes Boots or better can trivialize this boss, even on the hardest difficulties.
- This is less true in Revengeance and Death Mode, however, due to the smart teleporting King Slime gains, where he will always try to move ahead of the player, having at least one set of platforms in this scenario is probably necessary.
- Having at least a Cloud in a Bottle and decent crowd control, such as a gem staff, makes it much easier to handle the boss even with a lackluster or no arena. It allows the player to both easily traverse the terrain and deal with the multitude of minions the boss spawns.

- If the Vanilla Calamity Mod Music is enabled, the vanilla Boss 1 theme will be replaced with Gelatinous Monarch, which was composed by Heart Plus Up!.
