King Slime is a pre-Hardmode boss. He is intended to be one of the first bosses fought by the player and is considered to be the weakest of all of the bosses. Fighting him is completely optional and not required for game progression, but his defeat may reward the player with money and useful items.

This guide will mention items exclusive to Expert and Revengeance Mode with no special formatting and will follow the intended progression.

Terrain Preparation

A very long platform can make the fight with King Slime trivial as it will remove the need to dodge the Crown Jewel's attacks and deal with the Slimes that will spawn, leaving only the concern of King Slime despawning if the player gets too far.

Gearing Up

For a Normal and Expert Mode guide to King Slime, see King Slime strategies on the vanilla wiki.

Armor

Accessories

Movement

  • Hermes Boots or any of its upgrades are heavily recommended so that the player can keep up with King Slime's pace.
  • Any double jump, preferably the Sandstorm in a Bottle or Blizzard in a Bottle, makes it significantly easier to dodge King Slime or its slime summons.
  • Magiluminescence is an incredibly powerful movement accessory if they player is willing to gather the resources to craft it.

Offensive

  • Luxor's Gift is a great accessory which provides powerful damage boosts for all classes.
  • The Shark Tooth Necklace provides armor penetration, increasing the damage of all weapons. This is especially helpful for low damage and fast firing weapons such as the Minishark.
  • The Feral Claws are a good damage accessory for melee and summoner players due to their melee speed increase, as long as the summoner is utilizing Whips.
  • Mages can make use of the Magic Cuffs, as mana is vital this early in the game.
  • Summoners can boost their minion damage and durability with the Spirit Glyph.
  • The Coin of Deceit is great for stealth-based rogues.

Weapons

Melee

  • The Amazon paired with a string accessory should make the fight simple for melee users.
  • The Starfury is also a good choice, having good range and DPS.
  • The Smoking Comet is one of the best yoyos available at this stage and has projectiles similar to the Starfury that can also hit the spawned slimes.
  • The Enchanted Sword is another good choice due to its ability to fire a projectile.
  • The Blade of Grass is a hard to use weapon, but with its increased size, can be capable of good DPS as long as the player can maintain a middling distance or has the bulk to shrug off hits.
  • The Platinum Broadsword is a more powerful true melee option that has a shorter range, making it harder to use effectively.
    • With both these weapons the player will have to deal with the Crown Jewel pestering them the whole fight, as it is effectively impossible to hit it with true melee.
  • The Old Lord Claymore is a powerful movement option that also deals good damage but can be difficult to obtain.

Ranged

  • The Minishark is a good option for rangers, especially when paired with the Shark Tooth Necklace.
  • The Boomstick is another great option for rangers.
  • The Opal Striker is another very powerful option for rangers.
  • Any bow paired with Jester's Arrows is very useful for dealing with King Slime's summons, while also doing decent damage to King Slime himself.
    • The Blood Rain Bow is a very strong consideration, as its raining blood bolts can make quick work of both the boss and its minions. However, it is better paired with Unholy Arrows due to their higher base damage.
  • The Magna Cannon is a very powerful weapon that can be slightly harder to obtain.

Mage

  • High-tier gem staffs, such as the Diamond Staff or Ruby Staff should deal with King Slime relatively quickly.
  • The Frost Bolt is also a viable option for mages.
  • The Harvest Staff, while having difficulty hitting the Crown Jewel, can make quick work of King Slime and his minions with its rolling projectiles and piercing.

Summoner

  • The Frost Blossom Staff is a great option, due to its instant projectile and splash damage.
  • The Sun Spirit Staff is slightly weaker, but still useful for the same reasons.
  • The Wulfrum Controller is a decent choice for its flight and AI, as well as relative ease of access.
  • The Stormjaw Staff is another good summon for this fight with its splashing sparks.
  • The Leather Whip can be considered, but even at its longest range can have difficulty landing hits.
    • The Snapthorn, however, can trivialize the fight entirely, shredding the boss in seconds.

Rogue

The Fight

This fight rundown will assume you built your arena according to the Terrain Preparation section in this guide, and that you have Hermes Boots, or its upgrades equipped.

King Slime will jump toward the player and summon slimes. Every so often, he will perform a large jump and teleport to a spot closer to the player. When King Slime lands, this is usually a good time for true melee players to try and get their hits in, as King Slime will take a few seconds before teleporting without performing any attacks. King Slime will teleport regardless if the player gets too far away, however.

To completely remove any possibility of getting hit by any of King Slime's jumps or summons, run away from the boss. Flattened terrain, platforms, or decent movement can allow the player to handle this fight without even building an arena.

At 50% health, King Slime will summon a Crown Jewel (enemy) Crown Jewel. The jewel hovers above the player and pursues them, firing 1 Revengeance Mode / 3 Death Mode Jewel BoltJewel Bolts every 1.25 Revengeance Mode / 1 Death Mode seconds. To dodge the jewel's attacks, do not change your movement pattern whatsoever and continue running away from the boss. The jewel does not have much health at all, so if it is giving you trouble, simply kill it.
