The Dragonfolly is usually the first or second Post-Moon Lord boss that you will face in your playthrough. Dragonfolly is summoned by using Exotic Pheromones in the Jungle at any time.

This guide will mention items exclusive to Expert and Revengeance Mode with no special formatting and will follow the intended progression.

Terrain Preparation

Not much arena is needed as long as it is in the Jungle although platforms can help. The ground should be flattened to avoid getting caught in any crevices.

Gearing Up

The Lunar armors are the preferred choice for all classes.

  • Lunar Wings with Angel Treads or Celestial Tracers are the preferred wings.
  • Asgard's Valor or the Statis' Ninja Belt allow the player to make sharp turns and are very useful.
    • Asgard's Valor additionally gives knockback immunity and many defensive boosts.
    • Statis' Ninja Belt additionally provides the chance of a ninja dodge and increased jump acceleration.
  • The Blood Pact can be useful in this fight, as it can grant increased max HP as well as increasing the HP gained from using healing potions.
  • The Absorber is important for survivability by increasing damage reduction as well as giving increased jump acceleration.
  • The Community is a great all-around accessory that boosts offensive and defensive stats as well as boosting flight time.
  • Deific Amulet is an excellent option providing additional immunity frames and life regen, as well as reducing the cooldown of healing potions.
  • Melee players should use the Bloody Worm Scarf for its strong melee boosts as well as increased damage reduction.
  • Ranged players should use the Recon Scope or Deadshot Brooch, which both help in boosting damage output.
    • The Deadshot Brooch additionally gives some ammo conservation.
  • Magic players should use the Sigil of Calamitas for its strong magic boosts.
  • Summoners can boost their minion count and damage with the Star-Tainted Generator and Statis' Curse.
  • The Dark Matter Sheath can be a good accessory for Rogue players, provided they can gain stealth to perform stealth strikes.
    • It also provides several passive Rogue bonuses.

The weapons made from Luminite Bars are typically the best options for the fight.

  • The Ark of the Elements's is a risky but rewarding weapon, requiring parries and 'snip' timing to get maximum damage.
  • The Plague Keeper in conjunction with the Plague Hive is another option with higher DPS.
  • The Stellar Contempt is a powerful option much like the Elemental Disk at the cost of smaller range.
  • The Solstice Claymore is another great option for defeating the Dragonfolly.

  • The Elemental Ray and Mad Alchemist's Cocktail Glove are usually the best overall choices for this fight, allowing you to easily hit both The Dragonfolly and Draconic Swarmers with ease.
  • Genesis and the Last Prism are additional options that deal good damage while still hitting the Draconic Swarmers.
  • The Ultra Liquidator is an excellent weapon for dealing damage and applying Ichor.
  • The Swarmer makes it easy to fight at a long distance.
  • The Augur of the Elements does high damage at a close range, making it a good option for clearing out the Draconic Swarmers.
  • The Effervescence is a very good option, despite its limited range.

  • The Elemental Disk is Rogue's primary option that deals good damage to Dragonfolly as well as handling the Draconic Swarmers.
  • Lunar Kunai are a good choice for the fight, as their homing ability and high rate of fire allow you to focus more on dodging.

  • The Well Fed buff and its upgrades provide useful all-around stat boosts.
  • Farm Blood Orbs to easily craft many helpful potions that will increase your survivability.

The Fight

The Dragonfolly will spawn offscreen, meaning you should be prepared to dodge Dragonfolly as it approaches you. Dragonfolly has 3 main attacks: flying toward the player, charging at the player, and summoning Draconic Swarmers.

When Dragonfolly spends a majority of the time flying around often in your direction, it will fly in your direction albeit, not extremely aggressively. However, Dragonfolly will outrun the player if Celestial Tracers are equipped while running, and it will continue to fly at you even as you run out of flight time. Dragonfolly cannot travel through platforms while doing this attack.

Occasionally, Dragonfolly will attempt to line up horizontally with you and perform a charge. Dragonfolly can go through platforms in order to line up properly. When turning around, Dragonfolly often releases a swarm of electric feathers. These slowly fly away and pick up speed over time. Within a few seconds, they will turn around and begin to home in. Be careful as they home in very strongly and are not easily shaken. The Rod of Discord or Normality Relocator can help in avoiding these.

When summoning Draconic Swarmers, Dragonfolly will begin to fly down, ignoring platforms, until it reaches solid ground. From there, it begins to fly left and right, spawning smaller versions of itself. The spawned Draconic Swarmers fly very fast, deal lots of damage, are immune to knockback, and have quite a bit of health. It is important to have a weapon that deals with them while still being able to take out Dragonfolly itself.

Dragonfolly will enrage if the player goes outside the Jungle or strays too far away from it, so it is best to stay close to it.

General Tips

  • The Normality Relocator or Rod of Discord are very strong tools as they allow instantaneous teleporting.
    • Be wary when teleporting with the Normality Relocator as the player will fall at a much greater pace if unprepared in a similar manner to the Portal Gun.
  • The Slimy Saddle or Pogo Stick can aid in dodging the Dragonfolly's charge attacks.
    • Additionally, dashing into the Dragonfolly when it charges with accessories such as Asgard's Valor can help in dodging.
  • In Revengeance or Death Mode, Rage and Adrenaline can be used effectively to deal with the large amount of Draconic Swarmers that spawn.
  • The Ultra Liquidator can also be used to apply Ichor for other classes such as Ranger.
    • The Ultra Liquidator activates the Summoner nerf. As such, summoners should use the Golden Gun to apply Ichor instead.
