The Slime God is one of the more difficult challenges that new players will face in the Calamity Mod, tasking them with defeating 2 boss entities at once, both of which inflict various debuffs and have an erratic and generally more complex behavior than previously encountered bosses. The Slime God is summoned by using an Overloaded Sludge in any biome and at any time.

This guide will mention items exclusive to Revengeance Mode with no special formatting and will follow the intended progression.

Terrain Preparation

An arena that allows for great vertical and horizontal mobility is a must for this fight, considering the high mobility of the bosses themselves.

Three flat layers of platforms about 15-20 blocks from each other will allow the player to make use of the Crimulan and Ebonian Paladins' inability to fall through platforms (except when dashing) and create a safe distance, while also providing enough space to maneuver around the 3 enemies. Campfires and Heart Lanterns will increase survivability and should be placed throughout the span of the whole arena.

An alternative arena setup is a long minecart track that goes up and down, making a full loop.

Gearing Up

Armor

  • Aerospec armor is a good option for all classes, with well-rounded stats and increased falling speed.
  • Molten armor is an option for melee players who wish to reduce damage taken as much as possible.
  • Rangers may use Necro armor instead, as it provides significantly better offensive stats, albeit with lesser mobility.
  • Summoners may opt for Bee armor due to its increased damage and minion slots.
  • Sulphurous armor is an option for rogues that sacrifices Aerospec's mobility bonuses for damage.

Accessories

  • Skyline Wings are extremely useful to navigate around the boss itself and the various minions.
  • Boots such as Amphibian Boots and Terraspark Boots are basically a necessity to keep up with the bosses' high speeds.
  • The Counter Scarf or the Shield of Cthulhu allow the player to make sharp turns and are equally useful as the previous accessories and should always be part of the player's arsenal when fighting this boss.
  • The Worm Scarf will boost the player's damage reduction considerably, making tanking the boss' attacks easier.
  • The Brain of Confusion is a great option for all classes, allowing the player to dodge an attack every 90 seconds as well as providing some damage bonuses.
  • The Rover Drive is a great defensive accessory, granting 10 defense and a barrier that can absorb up to 20 damage.
  • The Obsidian Shield can be used to make the player immune to knockback, making tanking a lot easier.
  • Melee players can use the Feral Claws and Bloody Worm Tooth to boost their damage and melee speed even further.
    • Yoyo users can also use Strings to help with their range.
  • Magic players can make use of the Celestial Cuffs and/or Mana Flower along with Mana Potions to recover their mana during the fight.
  • Summoners can boost their minion damage and defensive stats with the Spirit Glyph, and minion slots with Voltaic Jelly and the Pygmy Necklace.
    • The Feral Claws can also be used to increase whip speed.
  • Stealth-based rogues have many powerful options at this point, including the Coin of Deceit, Filthy and Bloodstained Gloves, Mirage Mirror, and Silencing Sheath.
    • The Raider's Talisman is also a good accessory for both stealth and spam-based rogue.

Weapons

Melee

  • The Broken Biome Blade, especially with its Biting Embrace (Ice biome) or Arid Grandeur (Desert biome) attunements, is an incredible option for this fight.
  • The Bladecrest Oathsword is an option for more precise hits, with a projectile that can slightly home into enemies and inflict the On Fire! debuff.
  • The Old Lord Claymore is especially useful for quickly dashing through enemies while providing immunity frames.
  • The Flamarang is a great option for a simple, fast and strong weapon against the boss.
  • The Wind Blade is also a solid choice.

Ranged

  • The Archerfish's piercing abilities, good rate of fire, and damage all prove to be incredibly useful during the fight, allowing the player to hit multiple entities at the same time.
  • The Bee's Knees is an excellent option for dealing good direct damage to the Slime God as well as being able to handle all the smaller slimes. The Bee's Knees should be used with Wooden Arrows.
  • The Hellwing Bow's piercing properties, debuff, and high damage makes it an incredibly solid option against all parts of the fight.
  • The Flurrystorm Cannon is suggested for its high rate of fire and good damage with the Frostburn debuff.
  • The Dragoon Drizzlefish deals exceptional damage but can be hard to obtain.

Mage

  • The Black Anurian is a great weapon during all parts of the fight, with good damage and range.
  • The Pulse Pistol is an excellent choice for dealing with the two slimes and their minions.
  • The Hellwing Staff and the Flare Bolt are both great options for doing damage to the boss, while also inflicting the On Fire! debuff which The Slime God is especially vulnerable to.
  • Shaderain Staff is also an excellent support option.

Summoner

  • The Staff of Necrosteocytes, while grounded, is an extremely powerful option against the Slime God.
  • The Herring Staff's ability to summon large amounts of powerful minions makes it a very strong option.
  • The Cinder Blossom Staff and Deathstare Rod can be used as a means of having other damage alongside the player's other minions.
  • The Tavernkeep Rods can be used for extra firepower, especially against the smaller Slimes spawned by the bosses.
  • Using whips such as the Spinal Tap or Snapthorn is a solid way to deal active damage and make minion targeting easier.
  • Aestheticus is a good support weapon and a nice way to deal passive damage through the Vaporfied debuff.

Rogue

  • The Lionfish is an excellent option for doing constant damage to the boss.
  • The Glaive can do considerable damage to the Ebonian and Crimulan Paladins thanks to its piercing ability.
  • If using a skybridge, the Kylie is useful for baiting the Slime God to run into it while kiting, dealing heavy damage.
  • The Sky Stabber can also be extremely effective against the Slime God, but generally requires heavy facetanking to be effective.

Miscellaneous

  • Farm Blood Orbs to easily craft many helpful potions that will increase your chance of survival during the fight.
    • Every potion available can be crafted with Blood Orbs, so use this to your advantage; many potions craftable with Blood Orbs are not normally accessible before the player fights the Slime God.
  • The Well Fed buff and its upgrades provide useful all-around stat boosts.

The Fight

When spawned, The Crimulan Paladin, Ebonian Paladin, and Core will all begin attacking the player.

The Crimulan and Ebonian Paladins hop towards the player, occasionally flying over them and then attempting to quickly fall on top of them. This attack can be dodged by continuing to move and taking advantage of dashes from the Counter Scarf of Shield of Cthulhu. The Paladins will also regularly fire volleys of Abyss Balls at the player, should they be far enough away. The Ebonian Paladin fires twice as many Abyss Balls as the Crimulan Paladin, though it attacks less frequently. The player should be prepared to quickly fly up or drop down from their platform to evade this attack. As both Paladins lose health, they will spawn Crimson Slime Spawns and Corrupt Slime Spawns respectively. These can be dealt with using piercing weapons, or by building an arena long enough that it is not necessary to double back. If the player moves too far away, the large slimes can teleport or very quickly fly toward the player, so they should not be moving too quickly away from any of the large slimes. In Expert Mode, the Crimulan and Ebonian Paladins will split upon reaching 50% health into two smaller, weaker versions of themselves. The split versions of each god fire half as many Abyss Balls per volley, and fire less frequently.

The Slime God Core is invincible and will constantly accelerate toward the player, inflicting the Slow debuff upon contact. This debuff drastically reduces the player's movement speed, often leading to getting hit several more times, so contact with the Core should be avoided at all costs. The Core will occasionally retreat into one of the larger slimes, "possessing" it, and granting it drastically increased damage, defense, and speed for several seconds.

Upon the defeat of either the Crimulan or Ebonian Paladin, the other god will enrage, firing Abyss Volleys much more frequently. In addition to this, each god gains a unique boost when the other is defeated. If the Crimulan Paladin is defeated first, the Ebonian Paladin will double its movement-based attack rates. If the Ebonian Paladin is defeated first, the Crimulan Paladin will double its defense. It is generally advised to target the Ebonian Paladin first, as it fires much harder to dodge Abyss Ball Volleys and its enraged buff is harder to deal with.

Upon the defeat of either the Crimulan or the Ebonian Paladin, the Core will enter its second phase and gain a new, more dangerous AI. The Core's movement speed and acceleration are increased, and it will possess the remaining Paladin a lot more frequently. Upon the defeat of the remaining Paladin, the Core will fly off-screen and explode, ending the fight.

In Revengeance Mode, all Slimes gain acceleration and speed as their health decreases, making them harder to outrun in the later phases of the fight.

In Death Mode, the acceleration and speed boosts are further increased based on missing health, making it advisable to target the large slimes with the least health remaining.

General Tips

  • Disabling backgrounds can help players who have trouble focusing on all the different things that are going on during the fight.
  • Dropping below the platform where a slime teleported can help you avoid physical contact.
