Queen Slime should be the first Hardmode bosses that players will face in their playthrough. It is summoned by using a Gelatin Crystal in the Hallow at any time.

This guide will follow the mod's intended progression.

Terrain Preparation

Queen Slime does not enrage if you leave the Hallow after summoning her, so if you have another arena close to the Hallow you can use that instead.

Build a long set of two to three platforms and level the ground of the arena to act as a fourth layer. Place the platforms a good distance apart, around 25-30 blocks. Great vertical and horizontal mobility is a must for this fight, considering the high mobility of the boss itself. Campfires and Heart Lanterns are useful assets to boost your health regeneration, so they can be placed throughout the whole arena.

The bottom layer of the arena can be built with Ice Blocks, increasing the player's acceleration and top speed, both of which are useful assets in the fight (provided the player is equipped with Frostspark Boots or their upgrades).

Gearing Up

Armor

  • The reworked hardmode ore armors will prove useful for melee, ranged, and magic players. The Calamity Hardmode progression rework means only Tier 1 ores are available before fighting any mechanical bosses in Hardmode.
    • Cobalt armor is good for its offensive boosts that increase with the player's movement speed.
    • Palladium armor is also good for its boosts to regeneration and slightly higher defense.
  • Statigel armor is still a decent choice at the start of Hardmode for all classes, trading survivability for more raw damage and mobility.
  • Spider armor is very useful for summoners, due to the extra minion slots it provides.
  • Titan Heart armor is a great choice for rogues.
  • Mollusk armor is a solid choice for most classes, however it cripples mobility which may not be desirable for this boss.

Accessories

Movement

  • If Queen Slime is fought before any mechanical boss, Angel and Fairy Wings are the best choices for wings due to their great defensive boosts, but Demon Wings may be used instead if the player desires a more offensive approach.
  • Terraspark Boots or Fairy Boots are both good options for grounded movement during the fight, having increased mobility on ice or multiple stat bonuses, respectively.
  • The Counter Scarf or the Shield of Cthulhu allow the player to make sharp turns, being especially useful for dodging Queen Slime's jumps. They should always be a part of the player's arsenal when fighting this boss.
    • If the player has defeated one mechanical boss, the Evasion Scarf can also be used.

Defensive

  • If getting hit disrupts your rhythm in the fight, the Cobalt Shield or the Cross Necklace (and their upgrades) will allow you to more smoothly recover in case of a mistake.
  • The Charm of Myths provides great boosts to life regeneration and allows for using healing potions more quickly.
  • The Flesh Knuckles provide a good amount of defense as well as 45 maximum health.

Offensive

Weapons

Melee

Ranged

  • The Daedalus Stormbow with Napalm Arrows is extremely effective against this boss.
  • The Polaris Parrotfish can kill Queen Slime very swiftly.
  • The Butcher can deal massive damage to Queen Slime, but it requires the user to charge up fully before it can reach its full potential.
  • The Meowthrower is another pretty strong weapon that can beat Queen Slime effectively, although it can have a slightly small range.

Mage

  • The Frigidflash Bolt is an excellent option for dealing with Queen Slime.
  • Poseidon is a decent choice due to its piercing and homing capabilities.
  • The Crystal Serpent is a good choice, providing accuracy and high damage.
  • It is highly recommended that players use the Golden Shower to inflict Ichor.
  • The Nimbus Rod should be used mainly as a support weapon for constant damage against the boss.
  • The Glorious End can be used as a way to gain immunity frames and dodge attacks more easily, while also being a high-risk way to deal tons of damage.

Summoner

  • The Ancient Ice Chunk's Ice Claspers provide excellent damage.
  • The Shellfish Staff is a very strong choice. The shellfish should be summoned directly on Queen Slime after beginning the fight.
  • The Sanguine Staff is another powerful option for Queen Slime.
  • The Tavernkeep Rods can be used for extra firepower, especially against the minions spawned by Queen Slime.
  • The Caustic Staff is an excellent choice as a support minion and can be used for debuffing Queen Slime with several different effects.
  • Firecracker is the best option for a whip against Queen Slime.
    • The Slime Puppet Staff can be used as an alternative to whips that will likely deal more damage.

Rogue

  • The Blazing Star is an excellent choice for Rogue users, due to its very powerful stealth strike which homes.
  • The Prismalline is an excellent option for Rogue users as it is non-consumable with good DPS and excellent crowd control. To maximize DPS, the daggers should split right before hitting Queen Slime.
  • The Equanimity and the Gacruxian Mollusk are both solid options due to their multiple projectiles and homing capabilities.
  • The Burning Strife is a good option for crowd control and inflicting the Shadowflame debuff.

Classless

  • The Golden Gun is a useful option for players with no other means of inflicting Ichor.

Miscellaneous

  • The Rod of Discord can aid in dodging Queen Slime's attacks. In addition, Calamity allows the Rod of Discord to be more easily obtained, as it can be bought from the Wizard in the Hallow biome.
  • A hook such as the Serpent's Bite can help with avoiding attacks.
  • The Slimy Saddle can serve as a makeshift downward dodge and can be helpful for dodging Queen Slime's attacks.

Notable Buffs

The Fight

Queen Slime behaves similarly to a normal slime, performing a high leap every four jumps, after which she will perform one or two of her special attacks. All jumps are boosted relative to the vertical distance between her and the player, increasing her jump speed and height by 3.2% every block and capping at a 100% bonus. The delay between jumps will reduce when her health drops below 80% and 60%. To avoid these jumps, the player should run away from the boss.

Additionally, Queen Slime will occasionally teleport regardless of condition and at a faster rate. She will teleport more often if the player is hidden behind solid tiles or is at least 20 blocks above her. She will also teleport closer to the player, and will always teleport in front of them, as well as gaining the ability to teleport mid-air if the player is high above the ground. These teleports can conserve momentum, so the player should avoid changing direction immediately before the teleport as Queen Slime can teleport directly on top of the player.

Her Regal Gel attacks now travel in straight lines indefinitely instead of arcs, and she will occasionally fire groups of two Regal Gel instead of just one in certain directions each time she performs the attack. To dodge this attack, the player should pay attention to the trajectories of the Regal Gel, gain some distance away from the Queen Slime, and move between the Regal Gel.

During Phase 2, Queen Slime will now constantly attempt to perform her two special attacks with nearly no downtime. When she is brought under 40% health, she gains two new attacks, replacing her Queenly Smash.

  • Queenly Smash V2 is effectively the same, but Queen Slime will release indefinitely traveling Crystal Spikes to the left and right of herself as she falls until she hits solid blocks. These are similar to those released by her Crystal Slime minions but are unaffected by gravity. To dodge this variant of Queenly Smash, run in a straight line away from Queen Slime and jump over or slow down to avoid the projectile.
  • Queenly Smash V3 is identical to Queenly Smash V1 but releases an arc of indefinitely traveling Crystal Spikes around herself upon hitting the ground, in a similar pattern to the Crystal Slimes'. This attack can be dodged by simply running in a straight line, as the lowest of the Crystal Spikes will travel right above the player's head.

In Death Mode

  • Queen Slime can now perform three or four special attacks after each high leap, instead of just one or two, as well as being more likely to perform three or four than one or two.
  • She will also always perform a teleport before performing her special attacks and will always attempt to teleport in front of the player depending on their current velocity, teleporting above them if they are not moving or are in the air.
  • Her attacks are overall more aggressive and performed faster in both phases and tend to have more projectiles per attack.
