Cnidrion is a Pre-Hardmode enemy that spawns in the Surface Desert. It will attempt to follow the player while firing a burst of either four or twelve water blasts every five seconds. In Death Mode, its firing rate doubles while below 33% health, and triples while below 10% health.

It can be detected with the Lifeform Analyzer and its upgrades.


  • While passing through bodies of water, its projectiles are almost invisible.
  • It can be a dangerous enemy for Pre-Hardmode players exploring the Desert, due to its large hitbox.
  • While under 25% / 60% Death Mode health, it gains the ability to fire water blasts while moving.
  • In the Get fixed boi seed, it will move significantly faster.


  • Cnidrion can swim through blocks in order to reach the player. Its projectiles, however, cannot pierce blocks; barricading with blocks while it shoots and attacking it while it approaches is a good strategy to take one down, provided the player either has high enough DPS or multiple barriers to fall back to.


  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Cnidrion: "Once trained to be the steeds of honored Ilmerian warriors, cnidrions survived the Incineration due to their sheer might. They continue to defend what was once the heart of the sea kingdom from intruders, maintaining a fierce loyalty to their masters even after they have passed on."
  • The name Cnidrion is derived from "Cnidaria", a term used for individuals of the cnidaria phylum, which contains organisms such as anemones, corals, and jellyfish.
    • Despite this, Cnidrion's design takes after seahorses, who are instead members of the extremely distantly related chordate phylum.
  • Cnidrion's theme music was featured at the beginning of the official music video of UNIVERSAL COLLAPSE, theme of the Devourer of Gods' second form as a joke.
  • Cnidrions were originally considered a mini boss, but were demoted due to their maximum health not reaching the threshold required for the Boss Health Bar to appear.

    • Now has 25% less health and 10% less damage in Master Mode.
    • No longer deals 25% Revengeance Mode / 40% Death Mode more damage.

    • Decreased how fast it can swim through tiles by 50% and spawn rate by 60%.
  • Nerfed health from 400 / 800 Expert Mode to 280 / 560 Expert Mode.
    • No longer scales damage with health, overall changing damage from 22-34 / 32-52 Expert Mode to 18 / 48 Expert Mode.
    • No longer drops Coral, Starfish, Seashells, or Victory Shards.
  • Now falls through and climbs blocks slower.
    • Nerfed contact damage from 20 / 40 Expert Mode / 50 Revengeance Mode / 57 Death Mode to 20 / 40 Expert Mode / 50 Revengeance Mode / 56 Death Mode.
    • Now has a natural spawn limit of 1.
    • Fires projectiles at the fastest rate immediately, instead of increasing rate below 33%, 25%, and 10% health in Death Mode.
    • Now shoots water more frequently, and starts firing more erratically once it reaches 25% health instead of 10%.
    • Fixed it not shooting water from mouth.
  • Now inflicts Wet for 5 seconds instead of 4.
  • Decreased minimum coin drop amount from 50 Silver Coin to 25 Silver Coin.
  • Nerfed damage reduction from 10% to 5%.
  • Nerfed health from 600 / 1200 Expert Mode to 400 / 800 Expert Mode.
  • Changed health from 900 / 1080 Expert Mode to 600 / 1200 Expert Mode, and nerfed contact damage from 35 / 42 Expert Mode to 20 / 40 Expert Mode.
  • Nerfed health from 1300 / 1560 Expert Mode to 900 / 1080 Expert Mode.
    • Now has 10% damage reduction.
    • Reworked:
      • No longer moves with a modified Fighter AI while occasionally firing a single water blast.
      • Now swims through blocks towards the player and occasionally stops in place to shoot multiple water blasts at the player.
      • Water blasts now last 2 seconds instead of 5.
