The Rotdog is a Pre-Hardmode enemy that spawns on the Surface at night after the Eye of Cthulhu has been defeated. It has the same AI as the Unicorn, charging and ramming into the player at high speeds. This, along with their ability to inflict Bleeding, makes them a dangerous enemy for unprepared players.


  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Rotdog: "Fast and furious, these hounds prowl the night, hunting prey with their razor sharp teeth. They are similar in nature to the demon eyes, both being spawned from the same vile mire, yet these creatures are tailored made to end those who have proven themselves a threat to it."
  • The Rotdog's name is a play on the words, "rot" and "hotdog".
  • The Rotdog's bestiary entry references the Fast & Furious franchise.

  • Decreased Bleeding duration from 2.67 / 5 Expert Mode seconds to 2.
  • Nerfed health from 70 / 140 Expert Mode to 60 / 120 Expert Mode, and damage from 20 / 40 Expert Mode to 18 / 36 Expert Mode.
  • Nerfed health from 130 / 143 Expert Mode to 70 / 140 Expert Mode, and damage from 30 / 42 Expert Mode to 20 / 40 Expert Mode.
  • Now uses vanilla enemy spawn chance instead of custom one.
  • No longer spawns if the player is near a Celestial Pillar.
  • 1.1.7:
    • No longer has gores.
    • Resprited.
    • Now produces less dust when hit.
    • Now produces dust when killed.
