The Oarfish is an enemy that spawns in the 2nd and 3rd layers of the Abyss. It is a long enemy with multiple segments. Like most Abyss enemies, it won't attack the player unless they get too close or they attack it. It attacks by using its very long body to trap the player.

  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Oarfish: "Oarfish are known for laying thousands or even millions of eggs in astonishingly quick gestation cycles. These eggs are the most abundant source of food in the Abyss, being part of the reason even the smallest and least threatening creatures can live in the otherwise near inhospitable depths of the sea."
  • Oarfish in real life live in deep sea away from turbulent, shallow water. The name likely refers to the discarded belief that the fish use their pelvic fins to "row" through water.


These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • Fixed it not properly targeting a new player in multiplayer.
    • Now has 25% less health and 10% less damage in Master Mode.
    • Body and tail no longer deal contact damage.
    • Now inflicts Riptide instead of Crush Depth.
    • Now drops Depth Cells after defeating Anahita and Leviathan instead of Calamitas Clone.
    • Now drops 3-5 / 4-7 Expert Mode Depth Cells at a 50% chance instead of 3-5 at a 50% chance with a 50% chance to drop an extra 1-2 in Expert Mode.
    • Now vulnerable to electricity and sickness debuffs, but resistant to water and heat debuffs.
  • Can no longer drop Halibut Cannon.
    • Buffed health from 2000 / 4000 Expert Mode to 4000 / 8000 Expert Mode, head damage from 30 / 60 Expert Mode to 60 / 120 Expert Mode, body damage from 20 / 40 Expert Mode to 30 / 60 Expert Mode, and tail damage from 10 / 20 Expert Mode to 15 / 30 Expert Mode.
    • Now picks an area to swim around in when it spawns. Movement has been adjusted to be more natural.
  • Decreased Halibut Cannon drop rate from 0.1% Revengeance Mode to 0.0001% Revengeance Mode.
  • Decreased minimum coin drop amount from 20 Silver Coin to 10 Silver Coin.
    • Decreased head's Bleeding duration from 5 seconds to 3.
    • Decreased head's Marked For Death duration from 2.5 Revengeance Mode seconds to 1.5 Revengeance Mode.
    • Decreased head's Horror duration from 2 Revengeance Mode seconds to 1.5 Revengeance Mode.
  • Head no longer has 10% damage reduction, body no longer has 20% damage reduction, and tail no longer has 45% damage reduction.
    • Nerfed health from 3000 / 6000 Expert Mode to 2000 / 4000 Expert Mode.
    • Can now drop Halibut Cannon at a 0.01% chance.
  • Can now drop Depth Cells after defeating Calamitas.
    • Nerfed health from 4000 / 8000 Expert Mode to 3000 / 6000 Expert Mode.
    • Nerfed head damage from 100 / 200 Expert Mode to 30 / 60 Expert Mode, body damage from 60 / 120 Expert Mode to 20 / 40 Expert Mode, and tail damage from 40 / 80 Expert Mode to 10 / 20 Expert Mode.
    • Resprited.
