The Skyfin is a Pre-Hardmode enemy that spawns during the Acid Rain event. It typically spawns underwater, flying up above its nearest target. When close to the target player or after 2.5 seconds, it pauses briefly and makes a sharp dive towards the player. After 0.83 seconds of diving, it flies back up and repeats its attack pattern.

Trivia

  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Skyfin: "Too weak to hunt in the waters below, skyfins instead use their wing-like fins to take to the sky and generally feast on insects or even small birds that dare wander near the sea. However, they are also able to hunt larger prey on land by fighting in packs and using hit and run tactics."

  • 2.0.1.003:
    • Nerfed tier 1 health from 70 / 140 Expert Mode / 210 Master Mode to 50 / 100 Expert Mode / 150 Master Mode.
    • Nerfed ascent speed by 16.67%.
  • 1.5.1.001:
    • Modified AI, allowing it to move through tiles at all times.
    • Also moves towards the player more aggressively and alternates between hovering above the player and diving down.
    • No longer gets stuck on platforms.
    • Now vulnerable to electricity debuffs, but resistant to water, sickness, and heat debuffs.
  • 1.5.0.001:
    • Nerfed tier 3 health from 5500 / 11,000 Expert Mode to 3025 / 6050 Expert Mode.
    • Decreased Irradiated duration from 3 seconds to 2.

    • Buffed tier 1 health from 70 / 112 Expert Mode to 70 / 140 Expert Mode and damage from 12 / 20 Expert Mode to 12 / 24 Expert Mode.
    • Nerfed tier 2 health from 400 / 640 Expert Mode to 220 / 440 Expert Mode and damage from 85 / 144 Expert Mode to 38 / 76 Expert Mode.
    • Buffed tier 3 health from 5001 / 8001 Expert Mode to 5500 / 11,000 Expert Mode, nerfed damage from 150 / 255 Expert Mode to 88 / 176 Expert Mode and defense from 58 to 18.
  • 1.4.5.001:
    • Nerfed tier 1 health from 150 / 240 Expert Mode to 70 / 112 Expert Mode and tier 2 health from 700 / 1120 Expert Mode to 400 / 640 Expert Mode.
    • Reduced knockback resistance from 100% to 0% in tiers 1 and 2, and 20% in tier 3.
  • 1.4.4.004:
    • Nerfed tier 2 damage reduction from 10% to 5%.
    • Nerfed tier 3 health from 6300 / 10,080 Expert Mode to 1001 / 1601 Expert Mode, damage from 175 / 297 Expert Mode to 150 / 255 Expert Mode, and damage reduction from 20% to 5%.
