The Eater of Worlds is a Pre-Hardmode boss that is fought in The Corruption.
Spawn
The Eater of Worlds is summoned using Worm Food while in the Corruption or by destroying 3 Shadow Orbs that spawn in the Underground Corruption. It can be summoned at any time of day.

segments. Vile Spit fired from its body segments will always inflict the Weak debuff for 1 second, with a 50% chance to inflict it for 2 seconds, a 20% chance to inflict it for 12 seconds, and a 10% chance to inflict it for 1 minute.
In Expert Mode
- Segment count decreased from 72 to 64.
In Revengeance Mode
- Eater of Worlds will become enraged if fought outside of the Underground Corruption, gaining the ability to fly towards the player if the boss cannot reach them.
- Individual segments do not drop Demonite Ores or Shadow Scales when killed.
- Splitting segments are able to regain health based on their overall health.
- Always fires vile spit and fire rate increases as its health lowers.
- Fires cursed fireballs when below 80% health and fire rate speed decreases as health lowers.
- Slightly increased velocity for each time a new head spawns, but it will only gain this velocity if it is far enough away from the player.
- Gains increased speed and acceleration when below 20% health.
- Increased speed and acceleration boosts when below 40%, and again when below 20% health.
In Death Mode
- Segment count decreased to 59 segments. All segments begin firing vile spit when 62 segments remain. Head segments begin firing cursed fireballs at 51 segments.
- Can fly at players who are out of reach easier. It will also get increased acceleration and top speed as its health decreases.
- The head segment as well as every other body segment gains 50% DR and double defense.
In Master Mode
- Segment count increased to 77.
- Enrage distance is decreased.
- Fires vile spit more frequently.
- Burrow speed is increased.
In Revengeance Master Mode
- Four worms are spawned at once.
- Segment count per worm is increased to 72.
- Gains increased speed at all times.
- Gains increased speed when below 10% health, and again when below 5%.
- Gains predictive movement when below 5% health.
- Burrow speed is increased.
- Fires vile spit more frequently.
- Fires cursed fireballs at all times, and the rate at which fireballs are shot out is massively increased if the boss has recently been damaged.
- Enrage distance is decreased.
- This is further decreased under 10% health.
In Death Master Mode
- Segment count per worm decreased to 62.
- Slightly decreased its maximum falling speed.
- Head segments push away from each other when colliding.
- Head segments fire shadowflame fireballs instead of cursed fireballs that go through tiles.
During the Boss Rush
- Maximum health increased to 2,500,000 / 3,500,000

- Becomes immune to all debuffs except Enraged, Kami Flu, and Shellfish Claps.
- Has 99% damage reduction for the first ten seconds after spawning, which smoothly scales down to 60%.
- It is less aggressive.
Aftermath
- The Merchant will begin selling Healing Potions and Mana Potions.
Resistances
- All segments take reduced damage from most non-minion piercing projectiles. Each hit decreases the damage of the next hit by 12%, until the eighth hit onwards which deal 20% of original damage.
- All segments take 20% damage from grenade-type projectiles. A list of affected projectiles is below.

- Can now turn the Calamity Boss Health Bar red when enraged outside of Revengeance Mode.
- No longer uses a global scaling contact damage formula based on boss velocity. Instead, it now uses a different formula for scaling contact damage based on velocity, which scales from half damage to full damage on the head, and 0 to full damage on the body and tail.
- Body and tail are no longer immune to lifesteal.
