The Eater of Worlds is a Pre-Hardmode boss fought in the Corruption.
Spawn
The Eater of Worlds is summoned using Worm Food while inside the Corruption, or by destroying 3 Shadow Orbs that spawn in Corruption worlds. It can be summoned at any time of day.

Behavior
Has increased damage reduction for a few seconds after spawning, to prevent cheap kills. It has 67 / 72 / 79 / 69 segments.
In Revengeance Mode
Segment count increased from 72 in Expert Mode to 79.
The Eater of Worlds will try to hit the player directly with its head segment, only stopping to turn around once it has gone past them. The body segments and tail will follow behind the head, with a body segment becoming a head if the Eater of Worlds is split and there are at least 2 segments, as that is the minimum length an Eater of Worlds can be.
If the Eater of Worlds splits into multiple worms, each one will act the same as a fully connected version, meaning that they will all attack the player with no regard for each other.
All segments share some characteristics:
- Can go through blocks
- Unaffected by liquids
- Immune to knockback
- Can shoot vile spit when there are only 71 segments remaining
The Head segment of an Eater of Worlds has the lowest defense and health but the most damage. They also have the ability to shoot Cursed Flames once there are 59 segments remaining. They retain their previous momentum if they have just been transformed from a body segment.
The Body segment of an Eater of Worlds is a middle ground of defense and attack between the Head and the Tail. They can also turn into a Head segment if they become the front segment of a Worm, or a Tail segment if they become the back segment of a Worm.
The Tail segment of an Eater of Worlds is the most resistant to damage but also deals the least damage.
When fought in the Underground Corruption, the Eater of Worlds will be less aggressive. However, when taken out of the Corruption it will enrage and continuously fly towards the player.
Unlike in lower difficulties, individual segments do not drop Demonite Ores or Shadow Scales when killed.
In Death Mode
- Segment count decreased to 69 segments. All segments begin shooting vile spit when 62 segments remain. Head begins shooting cursed flames at 51 segments.
- Can fly at players who are out of reach easier. It will also get increased acceleration and top speed as it's health decreases.
- The head segment as well as every other body segment gains 50% DR and double defense.
During the Boss Rush
- Max health increased to 2,500,000 / 3,500,000 / 4,550,000
- Becomes immune to all debuffs except Enraged, Kami Flu, and Shellfish Claps
- Takes 99.9% less damage for ten seconds after spawning
Aftermath
- The Merchant will begin selling Healing Potions and Mana Potions.
Resistances
- All segments take reduced damage from most non-minion piercing projectiles. Each hit decreases the damage of the next hit by 12%, until the eighth hit onwards which deal 20% of original damage.
- All segments take 20% damage from grenade-type projectiles. A list of affected projectiles is below.

- 2.0.3.007: Fixed its extra loot not appearing on the Boss Checklist mod.
- 2.0.3.005: Segments in Revengeance Mode or higher can no longer fire Vile Spit or cursed fireballs if the player is too close to them.
- 2.0.2.001: Fixed it not dropping Worm Scarf in Classic Mode.

- Decreased velocity of Cursed Fireball projectiles by 41.67% in Revengeance and Death Modes.
- Cursed Fireball velocities are now doubled while enraged.

- Decreased total number of segments in Death Mode from 82 to 67.

- Buffed health from 150 / 210 / 273 (7500 / 10,500 / 21,567 / 22,932 total) to 175 / 245 / 294 (8750 / 12,250 / 23,226 / 24,696 total).
- Now fires Cursed Flames in the direction its mouth faces instead of aiming towards the player.
- In Revengeance Mode, segments no longer drop Demonite Ore or Shadow Scales. The treasure bag now contains an additional 120-240 Demonite Ore and 60-120 Shadow Scales.

- Segments now take 60% damage from Sky Glaze and Feather Crown feathers, and 50% damage from Demon Scythe projectiles.

- Fixed a bug that prevented it from being marked as dead when killed on Revengeance Mode.

- No longer despawns outside of the Corruption but instead enrages in Revengeance Mode.
