"...Fate was cruel to many of their kind."
Queen Bee is a pre-Hardmode boss typically fought after The Hive Mind/The Perforators in the Jungle. Fighting her is not required for game progression, but her defeat will reward the player with money and useful items for the next stage of progression.
While in Revengeance Mode and Death Mode, Queen Bee gains several changes to her AI which make the battle much more difficult.
Spawn
Queen Bee can be spawned by:
- Breaking a Larva in a Bee Hive in the Underground Jungle.
- Using an Abeemination in the Jungle
Behavior
In Revengeance Mode
Queen Bee has two main attacks: charges and stinger attacks. Her minions, Bees and Hornets, can also be problematic to deal with. Queen Bee will attack the player faster the lower her health is. She will enrage when fought on the surface.
When starting the fight, Queen Bee will immediately charge at the player horizontally three times, while becoming level with the player's current elevation. She will then fly above the player, keeping a certain height above them even if they go up towards her. While above the player, the Queen Bee will fire stingers at them, periodically stopping to summon Bees. After a certain interval, she will begin the cycle again by charging the player. Her attacks will increase in speed as she loses more health.
When reaching 33% health, she will charge at the player four times instead of three and at a higher speed.
In Death Mode
- Charges have increased speed.
- Fires stingers extremely rapidly.
- While enraged, her top speed is increased, and she shoots bees and stingers at an even faster rate.
During the Boss Rush
Summons
Aftermath
- The Arms Dealer now sells the Boomstick.
Tips
- For more elaborate strategies on defeating the Queen Bee, including weapon and arena recommendations, see Guide:Queen Bee strategies.
- The ideal movement for this fight is to run back and forth and jump over Queen Bee when she charges, and then run straight while she shoots stingers. As her charges get faster, it would be advisable to switch to a different elevation, as this slows her down by forcing her to take more time getting to the player.
- If you have any Hornet Banners, place them around your arena so that you will have an easier time dealing with Queen Bee's hornet spawns.
