Rogue
The Rogue is a new class added by the Calamity Mod. The rogue class utilizes a unique Stealth mechanic granted by its armors, and makes use of thrown rogue weapons.
The Rogue class is largely developed, with content spread throughout the game. This includes 155 weapons, 31 accessories, 5 new full armor sets, 10 armor helmets, 1 modified vanilla armor set, and new modifiers.
Mechanics
Rogue Damage
Most projectiles from rogue weapons and accessories hit with a damage class called rogue damage. Weapons with rogue damage contain a unique set of modifiers. Rogue accessories and armor can be used to augment rogue stats.
Rogue stats can be inherited from generic damage class, as well as tModLoader's throwing damage class. Additionally, most accessories and armor effects on the throwing class are also inherited to the rogue class and vice versa. Exceptions include the Glove of Precision and Glove of Recklessness, which affect rogue stats only.
Stealth
Stealth is a rogue-exclusive stat that the player gains access to upon wearing almost any rogue-class armor set or respective helmet. Stealth increases whenever the player is not using any items or weapons. Stealth will be gained at a higher rate if the player stands still. Stealth decreases when the player uses items or weapons, regardless of whether or not they are moving. Depending on the armor worn, the maximum Stealth value can vary between 50 and 130, though it is able to be boosted further through the use of accessories. It initially takes exactly 2 and 4 seconds of inactivity to achieve full Stealth while standing still and moving respectively, though this can be significantly shortened with certain accessories. Upon reaching full Stealth, a sound effect plays to indicate it. Additionally, the stealth charge can be monitored through the stealth Meter towards the upper left-hand side of the screen. Max stealth is indicated when the stealth meter turns yellow.
For every point of Stealth, the player becomes slightly more transparent (this will not affect the player if they are near a town NPC, and can be disabled via configuration options) and gains -3 aggro.
Stealth also grants bonus rogue damage based on a complex formula involving the weapon's use time, the player's average stealth generation and their maximum stealth:
- First, the player's stealth generation is averaged by adding 80% of their generation while moving to 20% of their generation while standing still.
- Then, 4 is divided by this average and the result is raised to the power of 2/3. This value is referred to as the
stealthGenFactor
. - If
stealthGenFactor
is less than 1.5, it is set to 1.5. - The
useTimeFactor
is calculated with the formula0.75 + 0.75 * log4(2 + use time)
- Finally, the
stealthGenFactor
anduseTimeFactor
are multipled together and halved.
This final value represents the percentage damage increase granted by one point of stealth. For example, a final value of 0.05 would represent an additive 5% rogue damage increase per point of stealth.
Stealth Strike
A stealth strike occurs when a rogue weapon is used while the player has full rogue stealth, indicated by the notches at the sides of the stealth bar lighting up. Upon executing a stealth strike, the player's stealth will be consumed. Wearing some accessories will cause stealth strikes to only require a percentage of the player's maximum stealth to perform, and to only consume that same amount when performed: 85% for the Coin of Deceit; 75% for the Ruin Medallion; 50% for the Dark Matter Sheath and Eclipse Mirror.
Most accessory effects that trigger on stealth strike hits (like sparks created from stealth strikes while wearing Electrician's Glove) can only be triggered a maximum of 5 times per stealth strike. Lifesteal effect from Bloodstained Glove and its upgrades don't have this limit, however.
