The Rage Meter is a mechanic added in Revengeance Mode, along with the Adrenaline Meter. Once the meter has filled up completely, the Rage Mode buff can be activated by pressing the Rage Mode key. The Rage Meter has a minimum value of 0 and a maximum value of 100.

Gaining Rage

The Rage Meter is charged via proximity to enemies. The closer the player is to an enemy, the faster the Rage Meter will charge. Bosses triple the rate the player fills the Rage Meter. Only the heads of segmented enemies will count towards generating the Rage Meter.

  • The rate that the Rage Meter charges is linear and scales with how close the player is to the nearest enemy. The Rage Meter will charge fastest while the player is within 10 blocks of an enemy. The slowest the Rage Meter will charge is if the player is 50 blocks away from an enemy.
  • The exact formula for generating rage via proximity to enemies is:
    • (1 / (0.034 * d + 2) + (590.5 - d) / 1181) * 1/27, where d equals the distance to the nearest enemy in pixels, - 160.
  • The Heart of Darkness will constantly generate 1% of the total Rage Meter every second while equipped.
  • Gael's Greatsword will constantly generate 2.5% of the total Rage Meter every second while held.

Losing Rage

The Rage Meter can empty over time. This happens when the player is considered "Out of Combat", which means they are not near any enemies, nor have they dealt any damage to enemies for 10 seconds.

  • The Rage Meter will empty at a rate of 3.33%/per second. It takes 30 seconds for the Rage Meter to completely empty from full.
  • The Heart of Darkness and the Shattered Community prevent the Rage Meter from emptying over time while either is equipped.
  • Switching off of Gael's Greatsword will cause the Rage Meter to reset to 0.

Rage Mode

When the Rage Mode buff is activated, the player receives a damage boost of 35%. This total damage boost is multiplicative and applied after other damage boosts such as those from Potions or Accessories. Rage Mode stacks additively with Adrenaline Mode for a total damage boost of 235%. This can further be increased up to 280% with the three Adrenaline Mode permanent power-ups.

The player can increase the duration of Rage Mode by 1 second three times for a total duration of 12 seconds by using these permanent power-up items dropped by defeated bosses:

Notes

  • Once the Rage Meter reaches full capacity, a unique sound effect plays to indicate it.
  • Activating Rage Mode while holding Gael's Greatsword will fire a barrage of skulls. This effect replaces the Rage Mode buff.
  • Players can move the Rage Meter around by clicking and dragging it. This can be disabled in Configuration options.
  • The damage bonus from Rage is cut in half if the player is wielding a True melee weapon.

Trivia

  • Rage and Adrenaline are a reference to Ripper Mode from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Because of this, Rage and Adrenaline are often collectively referred to as "Rippers" by the community.
  • Rage and Adrenaline are replacements for a previous mechanic called Stress.
