The Cragmaw Mire is a Hardmode, post-Aquatic Scourge mini boss that spawns during the Acid Rain event. It will always spawn underwater, on the Sulphurous Sea's ocean floor.

Behavior

The Cragmaw Mire is a gravity-affected and mostly stationary enemy. It cycles randomly between three attacks:

  • Fires an even ring of five spikes around itself twice in quick succession. It switches to another attack after four seconds have passed.
  • Teleports above the player and attempts to drop directly onto them. On impact with a surface, an explosion is created alongside a burst of 12 homing acid droplets. It switches to another attack after performing two slams.
  • Teleports underneath the player and charges up a laser beam for one second. The laser beam lasts for two seconds and periodically releases homing acid droplets in random directions. It switches to another attack after the laser beam fully dissipates.

Tier 3

  • Teleports faster in the laser beam attack and takes 25% less time to charge the laser.
  • Teleports faster in the slam attack and falls 26.32% faster.
  • Fires three more spikes per ring with increased projectile speed and takes 21.74% less time to fire, allowing it to fire three rings instead of two.
  • Transforms into its second phase at 70% / 85% Revengeance Mode health, changing its appearance.
    • Gains the ability to fire a tether that attempts to grab the player, reeling them into itself if it lands. The tether has a lifetime of six seconds regardless of whether it hits or not.
    • Fires one additional spike per ring and takes 13.89% less time to fire.
    • Teleports even faster in the slam attack and falls 6.25% faster.
    • Teleports even faster in the laser beam attack.

Tips

  • The Cragmaw Mire spawns under the water, so it is recommended that the player dives into the water to lessen the chance of missing potential spawns.

Trivia

  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Cragmaw Mire: "A mostly immobile creature that dwells in the depths of the radioactive wasteland, it boasts an exoskeleton harder than titanium to defend its core. To compensate for its lack of movement, it has formed a symbiotic relationship with a worm that reels in prey in exchange for protection."
  • The Cragmaw Mire's appearance was inspired by a submission for a sulphurous sea design contest that was held on the Calamity art server. The original artwork, made by Ox#8375, used the name "Azufre Piercer".
  • The tether is referred to as 'CragmawVibeCheckChain' in the mod's source files.
  • The jaw of the Cragmaw Mire was inspired by a bear trap.
