Hydraulic Volt Crasher

The Hydraulic Volt Crasher is a craftable Hardmode hammer. When an enemy is struck, a stream of electricity is released, striking all enemies within a short range. Enemies that are struck by electricity take continuous damage from the shock, equivalent to 100% of the weapon's damage and reduces by 25% every hit until it hits the target 3 times. If the target is repeatedly hit, an explosion will occur, dealing more damage and inflicting the Electrified debuff. It consumes charge on use.

The weapon consumes 0.002 units of charge for each frame the weapon is held (totaling 0.032 units of charge per use) and has a maximum charge of 85. As such, the weapon can be used continuously from full charge for 11 minutes and 48 seconds.

Its best modifier is Godly or Demonic. Both modifiers increase its average damage output by the same amount. Mechanical tools can only have universal prefixes, because they can't have their speed modified.



The Hydraulic Volt Crasher cannot be crafted until the Encrypted Schematic from the Space Bio-center Lab is decrypted. If the requirement has not been met, two lines of tooltip are added at the bottom of the item:

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • Can now be used with right click to prevent it from breaking walls.
  • Buffed damage from 65 to 75, and hammers now grant 10 local immunity frames instead of 15.
    • Voltage streams now deal 100% base damage instead of 80%, but now pierce 2 times instead of 4 and grant 40 local immunity frames instead of 12.
    • The hammer itself no longer has a 175% size modifier and now grants 15 local immunity frames.
    • Up to 3 additional enemies can be electrocuted at a time, instead of infinite enemies within the radius.
    • Decreased stream's Electrified duration from 10 seconds to 3.
    • Removed the period from the first line of its tooltip.
    • Buffed size modifier from 130% to 175%.
    • Decreased hammer power from 230% to 100%.
    • Now uses 10 Any Mythril Bars in its recipe instead of 10 Hallowed Bars.
    • Fixed an issue that caused it to lose its charge when reforged.
    • Nerfed damage from 70 to 65, and increased stream projectile damage from 35% base damage to 80%.
    • Now always requires charge to be used.
  • Projectiles now benefit from true melee bonuses.
    • Depletion of charge is no longer random, it now consumes 0.002 charge for every frame it is held out.
    • Fixed a bug that caused it to target passive enemies.
