The aim of this guide is to show you how to completely skip the Wall of Flesh boss and never enter Hardmode, and yet still reach post-Moon Lord and defeat the Exo Mechs and Supreme Witch, Calamitas, the final bosses of the Calamity Mod... in Pre-Hardmode.

There is one item that makes this feat possible: Roxcalibur.

Using the Shimmer to decraft the Roxcalibur into its Hardmode materials unlocks many niche interactions, and sets off a chain of events that ultimately allows for extreme progression-skipping actions to be taken. In fact, the Shimmer is vital throughout many steps in this playthrough, with both its decrafting and transmutation capabilities being required to obtain many materials that would otherwise be inaccessible.

This guide is divided into three parts:

  1. Acquiring a Hardmode Anvil (in Pre-Hardmode)
  2. Reaching and defeating the Moon Lord (in Pre-Hardmode)
  3. Reaching and defeating the Exo Mechs and Supreme Witch, Calamitas (in Pre-Hardmode).

Note that this guide will also primarily assume that you are attempting to do a "Low%" run, in which you attempt to beat the game while defeating as few bosses as possible. As such, unless otherwise specified, this guide will only describe the bare minimum necessary bosses that need to be killed in order to successfully reach the end of the game without entering Hardmode, including all the additional complications that come with that.

DISCLAIMER: This guide is intended purely for the purposes of fun, and as a personal challenge. You do not receive any unique reward for beating the game while skipping Wall of Flesh, and being able to do so at all is considered "unintended".

Part 1: Pre-Hardmode

Create and begin a world as usual. If you generate the world as either a For the worthy or Get fixed boi seed, that makes a later step moderately easier, but it's not required.

Search the UndergroundUnderground, CavernCavern, and UnderworldUnderworld layers throughout the world until you find the tile version of RoxcaliburRoxcalibur. The Roxcalibur tile can generate almost anywhere in these three layers, and there is only one of them, so finding it may be very time-consuming. Here is some info to help you locate it:

  • It can only generate in the Purity Underground, Purity Caverns, The Underworld, or the Dungeon. It will not generate in any other non-Purity underground biomes, such as the Underground Jungle, Desert, Snow, and so on.
  • It has a strong tendency to generate on the far left side of the world, due to its generation method. So it's best to start searching from the left side of the world, scanning top-to-bottom, then slowly work your way to the right. (If your Abyss generated on the left side of the world, note that it cannot generate inside the Abyss, so you do not need to search it.)
  • It is considered a treasure that will be highlighted by Spelunker Potions or Wulfrum Treasure Pingers, so you should use those items to locate it easier. It will not show up on the Metal Detector, however.

Once you find the Roxcalibur tile, break it using any pickaxe to obtain it as an item.

If you encounter any Arsenal LabsArsenal Labs during your search or at any point, make sure to loot them, especially the Power Cell FactoryPower Cell Factories. Place down any Power Cell Factories you find so that they start generating Draedon Power CellDraedon Power Cells. You will need many of them later.

Locate The Aether in your world. Throw the Roxcalibur into the ShimmerShimmer pool to decraft it into the constituent ingredients of its recipe, most importantly: 10 Soul of NightSouls of Night and 5 Essence of HavocEssences of Havoc. This is the most important factor that makes this entire playthrough possible, because these two items are normally Hardmode-exclusive materials.

Using the Souls of Night, craft the Mechanical WormMechanical Worm. The Calamity Mod allows you to craft the Mechanical Worm at an Iron Anvil/Lead Anvil.

Summon, fight, and defeat The DestroyerThe Destroyer. This will likely be quite difficult at this point, so get as well-equipped as you can, either by killing other Pre-Hardmode bosses (if you are not attempting to accomplish a "Low%" run), or by exploring areas like The Underworld to acquire the best gear accessible pre-boss.

Defeating The Destroyer will grant you access to Mythril OreMythril Ore and Orichalcum OreOrichalcum Ore, because of the Calamity Mod's "Early Hardmode Progression Rework", in which defeating the first Mechanical boss causes those ores to generate in the world. However, none of the pickaxes obtainable at this point have the pickaxe power required to mine the ores directly (110%). Therefore, you must utilize one of the following methods to obtain them.

If you are in a For the worthy or Get fixed boi world seed:

Go to Space and mine the Cobalt OreCobalt Ore or Palladium OrePalladium Ore that are contained within the Planetoids, using a pickaxe with 100% or more pickaxe power (The Reaver Shark is obtainable pre-boss, and has 100% pickaxe power in the Calamity Mod. Alternatively, you can use the Hellstone Bars from decrafting the Roxcalibur to craft a Molten Pickaxe). Craft a Cobalt Pickaxe/Drill or Palladium Pickaxe/Drill, then mine the Mythril and Orichalcum ores found underground.

If you are in any other world seed:

Construct housing and wait for the SteampunkerSteampunker to move in. She will be able to move in because you've defeated The Destroyer, a Mechanical boss; she does not require the world to be in Hardmode in order to move in. After acquiring enough money, purchase a ClentaminatorClentaminator and Astral SolutionAstral Solution.
Locate blocks of Silt BlockSilt, Slush BlockSlush, or Desert FossilDesert Fossil, and spray them with Astral Solution from the Clentaminator to turn them into Novae SlagNovae Slag or Celestial RemainsCelestial Remains. Mine the Novae Slag or Celestial Remains, then place them into an ExtractinatorExtractinator. Because one Mechanical boss has been defeated, Mythril Ore and Orichalcum Ore (as well as Cobalt Ore and Palladium Ore) can be obtained from extracting these normally-Hardmode Astral blocks.

(You are also able to obtain Aerialite Ore by Shimmering Cobalt Ore, granting you access to Aerialite items as well, even though you have not defeated The Hive Mind nor The Perforators.)

Obtain a HellforgeHellforge. Smelt the Mythril Ore and Orichalcum Ore into Mythril Bars and Orichalcum Bars, then craft a Mythril AnvilMythril Anvil or Orichalcum AnvilOrichalcum Anvil.

Congratulations! You've acquired a Hardmode Anvil before even entering Hardmode!

Part 2: Pre-Hardmode with Hardmode Anvil

Now that you have a Hardmode Anvil, you have access to a few more crucial recipes even just with the materials available in Pre-Hardmode.

Firstly, use the Essences of Havoc to craft the Eye of DesolationEye of Desolation.

Summon, fight, and defeat the Calamitas CloneCalamitas Clone. Again, this will likely be quite difficult, although at least with enough extracted Novae Slag/Celestial Remains you should be able to craft Mythril and Orichalcum weapons and gear.

Defeating the Calamitas Clone will grant you Ashes of CalamityAshes of Calamity, which will be necessary later.

For now, travel to the Underground JungleUnderground Jungle and locate the Jungle TempleJungle Temple. Either find a way to get inside the Jungle Temple (hoiking in is a reliable method), or spend enough time in the entryway before the locked door, until BohldohrBohldohr enemies begin to spawn. Kill them to obtain Solar Tablet FragmentSolar Tablet Fragments and Lihzahrd BrickLihzahrd Bricks.

Craft a Death WhistleDeath Whistle. Summon, fight, and defeat the RavagerRavager. This may also be a difficult fight, so prepare well.

Defeating the Ravager will give you Fleshy GeodeFleshy Geodes, which contain numerous materials, particularly three Core of Sunlight Core of Eleum Core of Havoc "Cores" used to craft Core of CalamityCores of Calamity, and three Cryonic Bar Perennial Bar Scoria Bar "Bars" used to craft Life AlloyLife Alloy. Life Alloy will be necessary later.

(Notably, Ravager drops Scoria Bars. By Shimmer-decrafting these bars into Scoria Ore, you can use the ore "Shimmer chain" to obtain several new ores and bars you did not have access to before, including: Chlorophyte Ore/Bars, Hallowed Ore/Bars, Titanium Ore/Bars, and Adamantite Ore/Bars.)

Using the Shimmer, decraft the "Cores" you obtained from Ravager until you have enough Ectoplasm to craft a Naughty PresentNaughty Present. This too will be necessary later.

Now, prepare enough to safely travel to the 3rd or 4th layers of the AbyssAbyss. There, fight and kill Eidolists until you obtain an Eidolon TabletEidolon Tablet. Eidolists are normally Hardmode enemies, however they are able to spawn specifically after the Calamitas Clone has been defeated even if the Wall of Flesh has not.

Use the Eidolon Tablet to summon the Lunatic CultistLunatic Cultist. Fight and defeat him to obtain the Ancient Manipulator and begin the Lunar Events.

Bonus:

At this point you could defeat the Solar Pillar, obtain Solar Fragments, and use them along with the Life Alloy you acquired from Ravager to craft the Exotic Pheromones, allowing you to summon and fight the Dragonfolly. Defeating the Dragonfolly will give you Effulgent Feathers, which can be used with more Life Alloy to craft a Blessed Phoenix Egg, allowing you to summon and fight Yharon, Dragon of Rebirth. Both of these bosses are intended to be post-Moon Lord, and defeating Yharon before Moon Lord is an accomplishment in and of itself.
Unfortunately, although Auric Ore will spawn in the world if Yharon is defeated, you will have no way to acquiring it because no pre-Moon Lord pickaxes have enough pickaxe power to break it, and Titanium Crates - which Auric Ore will begin to appear in after Yharon - are Hardmode-exclusive. Thus, there is no point to defeating Yharon early for our purposes aside from getting some high-tier weapons and equipment, and bragging rights.
Additionally, Dragonfolly is not a required boss due to the existence of Draconic Swarmers which will spawn later in the run. So you should not do this if you are attempting a "Low%" run.

Defeat the Celestial Pillars, beginning the "impending doom", to summon and fight the Moon LordMoon Lord. Note that this is the only method to summon the Moon Lord, as the Celestial Sigil cannot be used unless it is Hardmode and the Golem has been defeated, neither of which will be the case for you at this point. If you die to the Moon Lord, you will need to summon Lunatic Cultist and defeat him and do the Lunar Events all over again.

Defeat the Moon Lord.

Congratulations! You've reached post-Moon Lord without even entering Hardmode, setting the world into a rare Pre-Hardmode post-Moon Lord state!

Part 3: Pre-Hardmode Post-Moon Lord

Now that you are in Pre-Hardmode post-Moon Lord... unfortunately not nearly as many major bosses are able to be skipped. Although this doesn't mean you won't still have to accomplish even more ridiculous feats.

Firstly, travel to the DungeonDungeon and begin breaking the Dungeon Brick WallDungeon Brick Walls. Keep in mind that you have not killed Skeletron, so the Dungeon Guardian will spawn if you enter the underground portion of the Dungeon. After collecting enough Dungeon Brick Walls, throw them into the Shimmer to transmute them into Cursed Dungeon Brick WallCursed Dungeon Brick Walls.

Go to The Underworld and begin placing your Cursed Dungeon Brick Walls. Place enough of them to create an artificial Dungeon biome in The Underworld. You'll know you've succeeded when the Dungeon Guardian spawns and the Dungeon's music begins playing.

Now, while avoiding the Dungeon Guardian, kill the Profaned enemies of The Underworld while remaining in front of your artificial Dungeon walls. The Profaned enemies will drop Unholy EssenceUnholy Essences, but additionally, Phantom Spirits should spawn from them as they die, which will drop NecroplasmNecroplasm. Necroplasm will be necessary later. You had to construct an artificial Dungeon in The Underworld because Phantom Spirits will only spawn from enemies that both drop coins and have at least 1000 health, so the Pre-Hardmode Dungeon enemies won't be able to spawn them due to their low health, nor will the Dungeon Guardian itself because it does not drop any coins.

If it's too difficult to defeat the Profaned enemies with the Dungeon Guardian chasing you, note that the enemies only need to die while you are in front of the Dungeon walls. So, you can damage the enemies until they're close to death while outside of the artificial Dungeon, and then only go in front of the Dungeon walls to finish them off. Doing so will still spawn Phantom Spirits all the same.
If you are not attempting to do a "Low%" run, you can simply kill Skeletron to prevent the Dungeon Guardian from bothering you during this stage. If you do not want to build an artificial Dungeon in The Underworld either, you must kill Plantera to have strong enough enemies spawn in the Dungeon itself to spawn Phantom Spirits.

Use the Unholy Essences to craft a Profaned ShardProfaned Shard. Summon, fight, and defeat the Profaned GuardiansProfaned Guardians, to obtain the Profaned CoreProfaned Core.

Summon, fight, and defeat Providence, the Profaned GoddessProvidence, the Profaned Goddess. This will generate Uelibloom OreUelibloom Ore in the world. You have two options for how to obtain Uelibloom BarUelibloom Bars from here:

Obtain enough Ueliboom Bars, either through mining or fishing, to craft a Blossom PickaxeBlossom Pickaxe. It will be necessary later.

Now, craft the Cosmic WormCosmic Worm using the Necroplasm obtained earlier. Summon, fight, and defeat The Devourer of GodsThe Devourer of Gods, in order to obtain Cosmilite BarCosmilite Bars.

Locate the unique Exodium ClusterExodium Cluster Planetoids that generated after Moon Lord's death, and mine them out. Use the Cosmilite Bars and Exodium Clusters to craft a Cosmic AnvilCosmic Anvil.

Use the Naughty Present from earlier to begin the Frost MoonFrost Moon event, which will now be buffed following The Devourer of God's defeat. Kill enemies during the event to obtain Endothermic EnergyEndothermic Energy. This will be necessary shortly.

If you have not defeated Yharon already, go to the surface JungleJungle to find and kill Draconic Swarmers. From them, you will obtain Effulgent FeatherEffulgent Feathers. Use these Effulgent Feathers to craft a Blessed Phoenix EggBlessed Phoenix Egg.

Summon, fight, and defeat Yharon, Dragon of RebirthYharon, Dragon of Rebirth. This will cause Auric OreAuric Ore to spawn throughout the world, which you can mine with your Blossom Pickaxe. Smelt them into Auric BarAuric Bars.

Now, you've reached the point where you are able to face the Exo MechsExo Mechs and Supreme Witch, CalamitasSupreme Witch, Calamitas. It's your choice which one you want to fight first or second.

To fight the Exo Mechs:

If you haven't already, locate the Bio-center Labs throughout the world to obtain Power Cell FactoryPower Cell Factories, a Charging StationCharging Station, Dubious PlatingDubious Plating and Mysterious CircuitryMysterious Circuitry, and all five SchematicsSchematics. Craft and place The CodebreakerThe Codebreaker. And then, while intermittently decrypting the Encrypted Schematics to unlock new recipes, craft and install all of the Codebreaker components:
  • The Decryption ComputerDecryption Computer, by finding and collecting Active Stone Blocks and Explosives from traps throughout the world and Shimmer-decrafting them for WireWire, because you do not have access to the Mechanic NPC, having never killed Skeletron.
  • The Long Ranged Sensor ArrayLong Ranged Sensor Array, using the Mythril and Orichalcum from Novae Slag/Celestial Remains or Shimmer-chains, and more Shimmer-decrafted Wire from traps.
  • The Advanced DisplayAdvanced Display, using the Life Alloy from Ravager.
  • The Voltage Regulation SystemVoltage Regulation System, using the Uelibloom Bars from mining Uelibloom Ore or fishing up Jungle Crates.
  • And finally, the Auric Quantum Cooling CellAuric Quantum Cooling Cell, using the Auric Bars from mining Auric Ore with your Blossom Pickaxe, and the Endothermic Energy from the buffed Frost Moon, and as well as the Cores of Eleum from Ravager.
Insert the Auric Quantum Cooling Cell into The Codebreaker, and summon Draedon and the Exo Mechs.

To fight Supreme Witch, Calamitas:

Craft the Altar of the AccursedAltar of the Accursed using Auric Bars and the Cores of Calamity from the Ravager. You already have Ashes of Calamity from defeating the Calamitas Clone, so as soon as you place the Altar of the Accursed somewhere, you are able to summon Calamitas.

Fight and defeat both the Exo Mechs and Supreme Witch, Calamitas. And then... you'll have done it.

With the Wall of Flesh remaining unkilled throughout the entire playthrough, you've beaten the Calamity Mod, without ever progressing into Hardmode!
