Dash
Dashing is an ability which allows the player to quickly travel a moderate distance when double-tapping the ◀ Left or ▶ Right keys (or by using a hotkey if the Dash Double Tap Override control is set), though some items may require a dedicated hotkey to be pressed in order for the player to perform the item's dash. Dashing increases the player's horizontal or vertical momentum, which can be used to evade enemy attacks, quickly reach sprinting speed, or accelerate to higher speeds on mounts with normally low acceleration.
The Calamity Mod adds various equipment that allow the player to dash or affect how they dash in certain ways.
If the Default Dash
configuration option is enabled, the player can also perform a very short dash without requiring items or equipment to do so, however this dash will be replaced with other available dashes granted by items or equipment.
Dash Types
There are several distinct categories of dashes, differentiated from each other by their effect upon hitting an enemy:
- Dash - This dash has no special effects upon hitting an enemy, the player will simply take damage like normal. Example: Tabi.
- Ram - This dash allows the player to dash through enemies, dealing damage to the enemy and granting i-frames to the player to allow them to pass through the enemy without taking any damage themselves. Example: Solar Flare armor.
- Bonk - This dash allows the player to dash into enemies, colliding with them, causing the player's dash to be cut short and causing them to bounce backwards slightly. The enemy will take damage, while the player is granted i-frames and thus will not take damage. Example: Shield of Cthulhu.

Notes
- If the player has the Ball and Chain favorited in their inventory, it will disable any dashes activated by double-tapping the ◀ Left or ▶ Right keys.
- However, this does not apply to the dashes activated by using dedicated hotkeys, such as the Plagued Fuel Pack and its upgrade.
