Proficiency was a new game mechanic added by the Calamity Mod. It was a series of 5 attributes, one for each damage type, that scaled with the player as they progress through the game. When the player dealt damage of a certain type, their proficiency with that type increased. Once they hit certain amounts of proficiency, they would level up and gain several small buffs, which varied depending on the type of proficiency.

Each proficiency was represented by a number between 0 and 12500. Any time a player dealt more than 5 damage to a non statue-spawned enemy, or any amount of damage to a boss, that number was increased by 1. There was a 2 second cooldown between increases of any proficiency, though this could be lengthened further if the player tried to increase past one of two soft-caps.

The player could view their current proficiency and level by buying one of the Level Meters from the Goblin Tinkerer. Having a Level Meter equipped would also give a small chance to double the amount of proficiency gained.

Levels and Boosts

Each type of proficiency would grant boosts to different stats. The boosts listed below are not cumulative, i.e. they represent the boosts gained from being at that level, rather than adding to the prior boosts.

  • Melee: Melee Damage, Melee Crit Chance, Melee Speed
  • Ranged: Ranged Damage, Ranged Crit Chance, Movement Speed
  • Mage: Magic Damage, Magic Crit Chance, Mana Cost Reduction
  • Summon: Summon Damage, Minion Knockback
  • Rogue: Rogue Damage, Rogue Crit Chance, Projectile Speed

Заметки

  • There were two soft-caps for proficiency gaining:
    • If the player tried to increase proficiency above 1500 (Level 5) while not in Hardmode, the proficiency cooldown was increased to 20 seconds.
    • If the player tried to increase proficiency above 5500 (Level 10) before defeating the Moon Lord, the proficiency cooldown was increased to 40 seconds.
  • If the current proficiency the player was gaining was at a lower tier than their highest (for example if melee was at Level 7 - Tier 2 - but ranged was at Level 11 - Tier 3) then the proficiency cooldown was halved.
  • Proficiency levels would transfer between worlds when playing on the same character, allowing for the player to level up across multiple worlds.
  • If the player had a Level Meter equipped, the respective proficiency cooldown was halved.
  • Super Dummies and Target Dummies would not count towards the player gaining proficiency.
  • When the player leveled up, a random firework would be shot out from them and a status message would appear in chat. A different status message would appear if the player reached the maximum level.
  • There was no proficiency for Throwing weapons or Classless weapons.

Интересные факты
