The Wasp Gun attacking a
Mimic and
Target Dummies. Note how the projectiles home in on the Mimic and ricochet off of blocks.
The Wasp Gun is a Hardmode, post-Plantera magic weapon that, as a direct upgrade of the Bee Gun, autofires homing wasp projectiles that damage and pierce enemies.
The Wasp Gun has a (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 1/7 (14.29%) / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 1/6 (16.67%) chance of being dropped by Plantera.
(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) Its best modifier is Mythical.
(Old-gen console and 3DS versions) Its best modifier is Demonic or Deadly for damage output, or Mystic for mana conservation because it cannot get modifiers that affect knockback.
Notes
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) The Hive Pack increases the defense penetration of wasps from 10 to 15, as well as the base damage of the Wasp Gun from 31 to 36.
- Like the bees of the Bee Gun and many other similar weapons, the wasps will dissipate upon contact with water and lava, but not honey.
- Modifiers that increase the Wasp Gun's speed have little positive impact because it deals piercing damage, which limits how often it can hit the same enemy no matter how quickly its projectiles are fired.
- The Hive Pack increases the damage and armor penetration of this weapon by 5 each. This buff is not listed in-game.
Tips
- It may not be very effective against Hardmode enemies due to the low per-wasp damage and high enemy defense, even though the gun is dropped by Plantera.
- Because of that (and the fact that the wasps pierce, triggering enemy invincibility), it is more useful not to spawn too many of them and switch to a different weapon after casting some.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) The weapon's armor penetration somewhat mitigates this problem.
- The Wasp Gun is highly effective for farming money with the Lucky Coin during events. The low per-hit damage results in a larger number of hits, netting more money overall.
- The Wasp Gun works incredibly well with the set bonus of the Spectre armor (with Mask), due to how every time a wasp hits an enemy it creates multiple projectiles, allowing for more potential DPS, which makes it quite well at dealing with bosses with multiple parts (e.g. Golem).
