This is an extremely low effort abyss guide but it should work fine until an official abyss guide page is made

Skeletron Trophy.png Post Skeletron

Directly after Skeletron there aren't many things that can make surviving here easier. There are some things, though. For starters, I'd recommend at least some Gills Potions, and have an Ocean Crest equipped too. If you've found the Ice Bio-center Lab, the Arctic Diving Gear contained within can also be a large help. If you can get around and not be hit, Amidias' Blessing is an invaluable asset.

  • Sidenote: If you're post-one mech (post-Skeletron in 1.4.4+), you can set up a Teleporter system to as many layers as you can reach. This will be extremely helpful for later exploration.

After Calclone there's a lot more options to survive the abyss with. I'd recommend Gills Potions, still use Arctic Diving Gear (you can't get the upgrade to it until you've been in the upgraded abyss already). Iron Boots and Flippers or Flipper Potions can be helpful for extra underwater movement, and the Strange Orb light pet can be very helpful for visibility. If you have an issue with being detected by enemies, Anechoic Plating can also be very good. If you can get around and not be hit, Amidias' Blessing is an invaluable asset.

Polterghast Trophy.png Post Polterghast

Post Polter is where you have the best options for surviving the abyss. I'd recommend Gills Potions and Abyssal Diving Suit. The Strange Orb light pet can be very helpful for visibility. If you can get around and not be hit, Amidias' Blessing is an invaluable asset.
