Overall Equivalent HP increase

accessory seems to do the equivalent of increasing hp by 25%. AuraChaneller (talk) 19:31, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

I'm new here so I don't want to edit the page myself, but I thought I should mention this to save other players the heartbreak: this page is misleading about the crit calculations. Crits vs enemies in Terraria multiply damage AFTER defense calculations, so it should be mentioned on this page that the 2.25x multiplier for crits against the player happens BEFORE defense calculations. This is important because it completely changes the effective incoming damage increase from using this accessory.

For example, if I am playing on Master difficulty, defense is 100% effective. I have 150 defense and 0% damage reduction (for the sake of simplicity), and I take a final hit of 200 damage from a boss's projectile, it means the base damage was 350.

  • Without using this accessory, I take 200 damage (350 - 150 = 200).
  • With this accessory, if I get crit, I take 637.5 damage ((350 * 2.25) - 150 = 637.5).
  • This means that being crit actually multiplied the damage I took by 3.19, not 2.25 like is written (637.5 / 200 = 3.19).

Another example, this time on Expert because most people play this mod on Expert. On Expert defense is 75% effective, so the flat damage reduction from my defense is only 112.5. This time it's a weaker boss so I take 87.5 damage. The base damage would therefore be 200 (200 - 112.5 = 87.5).

  • Without using this accessory, I take 87.5 damage (200 - 112.5 = 87.5).
  • With this accessory, if I get crit, I take 337.5 damage ((200 * 2.25) - 112.5 = 337.5).
  • This means that being crit actually multiplied the damage I took by 3.86, not 2.25 like is written (337.5 / 87.5 = 3.86).

Do you see how it's misleading to have "crits deal 2.25x damage" with no mention of this happening before defense calcs? The disparity between expected multiplier and real multiplier grows as the final non-crit damage the player takes gets smaller. BUT as long as the player has any defense, the real multiplier is never 2.25x, always higher.

Also, mentions of "effective HP increase" are hopeless since it depends on the player's defense and %DR, as well as the base damage of the hit. Kanaris (talk) 05:42, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Blood Pact

This item shares a name with a cult of Khorne in 40K. Given that it upgrades to the Core of the Blood God, which almost certainly is a reference to Khorne, perhaps this should be mentioned? 122.49.138.12 09:02, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
