Martian Walker114.29% / 25% Expert Mode

The Wingman is a Hardmode magic gun that is dropped by Martian Walkers during the Martian Madness event. When used with its primary fire (left-click), it summons two Wingmen to the sides of the player perpendicular to the direction of the cursor, that each switch sides and fire lasers towards the cursor that travel through tiles and pierce once. The Wingmen gradually increase in firing rate and laser velocity the longer it is held for, reaching a full speed of 6 lasers per second after 6 shots. As the Wingmen are in use, the player's arms will move along with them. Wingmen will remain active even if the player runs out of mana but will not fire anything until mana is replenished and will despawn as soon as the player stops holding left click.

When used with its secondary fire (right-click) while the Wingmen are in use will consume 25 mana per Wingman and cause them to fire high-deceleration grenades towards the cursor which travel through tiles with 130% velocity and explode on collision with enemies or after 1.6 seconds, dealing 600% damage to all enemies in a 7.5-tile radius, but lose 20% damage per hit. Grenades have a 1.5-second cooldown between firing, which is then reduced up to 0.58 seconds as the Wingmen fully charge. Charging up Wingmen also increases the initial speed of grenades, allowing them to reach farther before slowing to a halt.

Its best modifier is Mythical.

  • Each Wingman consumes mana independently of the other. If the player has sufficient mana to fire from one Wingman but not both, the white-tailed Wingman takes priority in firing.

Trivia

  • A wingman is a supporting pilot that protects the main aircraft. This is reflected in the weapon's main function.
  • The Wingman was originally implemented based on a community suggestion made by Gouvod on the mod's Terraria Forums post.

History

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • 2.0.4.002:
    • Buffed damage from 71 to 82.
    • Grenades now deal 600% base damage instead of 450%, have 130% velocity, and have 6 extra updates instead of 4, but lose 20% damage per hit instead of 5%.
    • Fixed its drawing breaking in multiplayer.
  • 2.0.4.001:
    • Reworked:
      • Buffed damage from 70 to 71 and mana cost from 12 to 5, but nerfed knockback from 3 to 1.5.
      • No longer fires 3 laser beams on use.
      • Now summons two Wingmen that orbit near the player, charging up to rapidly fire lasers towards the cursor.
      • Right clicking while using the weapon will cause the Wingmen to instead fire lingering grenades towards the cursor. These grenades have a cooldown, but firing them while the lasers are at full charge will decrease their cooldown.
