Pirate Deadeye14% / 6.67% Expert Mode

The Midas Prime is a Hardmode gun that is dropped by Pirate Deadeyes, and is the indirect upgrade to the Crackshot Colt. When used with its primary fire (left-click), it converts any suitable bullets into Marksman Rounds. When used with its secondary fire (right-click), a Silver Coin or Gold Coin is consumed and fired with an upwards curve. Coins are gravity-affected and cannot damage enemies. They can also be recoverable at a 100% chance, unless multiple coins are hit by the same bullet, in which only the first coin hit is recovered. Only 4 thrown coins can be active at a time.

Silver Coins guarantee critical strikes and additively increase the damage of the Marksman Round by 100% on its first hit, and 25% on further hits. Gold Coins behave similarly but increase damage by 150% on first hits and 50% on further hits.

Its best modifier is Unreal. For coin tossing uses only, Rapid may be preferable.

Notes

  • The gun noticeably recoils while used with either fire. However, this does not affect the player's velocity in any way.
  • The secondary fire is 3 times as fast as the primary fire but does not auto-use.
  • Fired coins have 5 times the grab range when dropped as items.
  • If no Gold or Silver Coins are available, Platinum Coins are automatically consumed by breaking down into Gold Coins on use.
  • Coins can also be taken from storage items such as Piggy Bank, Safe, Defender's Forge, and Void Vault.

Trivia

  • Various aspects of the weapon are a reference to ULTRAKILL.
    • The item name is a word play referencing Midas, a king in Greek mythology with a golden touch, and Minos Prime, a boss in ULTRAKILL.
    • The function and sound effects are based on the Marksman Revolver.
    • While pressing the Left Shift key, the tooltip changes to the following phrase which is identical to the poster text and opening lines of the game:
      MANKIND IS DEAD.
      BLOOD IS FUEL.
      HELL IS FULL.
Midas Prime being used against a Super Dummy. Note the damage scaling with coins.

History

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • 2.0.4.001:
    • Can now use coins from personal storage items such as the Piggy Bank.
    • Coin flash when the guaranteed critical strike activates is now more visible, and its tooltip now mentions that coins only guarantee critical strikes after a short delay.
    • Fixed it being able to duplicate money.
  • 2.0.2.002:
    • Buffed damage from 52 to 81. Decreased coin firing rate multiplier from 5x to 3x.
    • Can no longer take coins from the Piggy Bank, Safe, or Defender's Forge.
    • Coin hits are now guaranteed to be critical strikes.
    • Coins now fall faster, equal to the base gravity of the player. They can now be recovered at a 100% chance if not struck, but striking multiple coins now loses coins following the first hit. Thrown coins now have a 5x grab range bonus instead of 8x.
    • Copper Coins now additively increase damage by 70% on first hit, and 20% on further hits, instead of multiplying damage by 2.5x.
    • Silver Coins now additively increase damage by 150% on first hit, and 50% on further hits, instead of multiplying damage by up to 1.5x per hit.
    • Gold Coins now additively increase damage by 200% on first hit, and 85% on further hits, instead of multiplying damage by up to 1.75x per hit.
    • Silver and Gold Coins no longer have higher damage multipliers based on coin lifetime.
    • Coin ricochets now track slightly ahead of the target.
    • Striking coins decreases Daawnlight Spirit Origin's critical strike damage multiplier from 3.5x to 2.4x.
    • Fixed it being unable to toss coins once the player has over 999 Platinum Coins.
    • Fixed audio interrupting from its easter egg track.
  • 2.0.2.001: Decreased sell price from 7 Gold Coin.png 20 Silver Coin.png to 4 Gold Coin.png 80 Silver Coin.png.
