The Grand Guardian is a craftable Hardmode broadsword that is the direct upgrade to the Majestic Guard. When striking enemies, it lowers their defense by 1 on each strike, and if it hits an enemy with 0 defense or below, it heals the player for 6 health. Striking enemies causes large explosions that deal 50% of the weapon's damage and function similarly to the explosions created by the Inferno Fork and its upgrades. Hitting enemies that are under half health will release rainbow bolts. Enemies killed by the sword will spawn healing orbs on death that home on the player after a short delay and heal them for 8 health.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

  • The defense reduction applied by the weapon can stack as long as the enemy's defense is over 0 or they have not changed their base defense values (e.g. When a boss changes phases).
  • Astrum Deus takes only 50% damage from the Grand Guardian's explosions and rainbow bolts.

History

These history sections are still a work-in-progress, and may not yet contain changes relevant to the current version of the Calamity Mod.
  • 2.0.4.001:
    • Lifesteal now bypasses lifesteal immunity, but obeys the lifesteal cooldown.
    • Rainbow bolts now home back in on the player after a short delay, and heal for 6 health instead of 4.
    • Explosions no longer lose 10% damage per hit.
    • Now has a glowmask while being used.
    • Rainbow bolts now home towards the closest enemy instead of the earliest enemy in the NPC array.
