"The ever-rejuvenating guardians of the profaned flame."
The Profaned Guardians are a group of post-Moon Lord bosses fought in The Underworld or The Hallow. They need to be killed in order to obtain the Profaned Core, used to summon Providence, the Profaned Goddess, and each Guardian also drops a special respective "Relic" item.
The Guardians are also summoned during the fight against Providence, where they will not attack but instead provide buffs to the boss while active.
Spawn
The Profaned Guardians will not spawn on their own and must be summoned by using a Profaned Shard while in The Hallow or The Underworld. The Profaned Guardians can only be summoned during the Day and will flee and despawn if it becomes nighttime.

Behavior
All three Profaned Guardians spawn at the same time. The Guardian Commander is the main boss, but cannot be reasonably harmed until the Guardian Healer and then Defender are defeated. As the Guardians are defeated one by one, the remaining ones will become more aggressive.
If the player exits the Hallow or Underworld for more than 5 seconds during the fight, the guardians will become more aggressive and fire more projectiles more often until they return.
Attacks
Guardian Commander
- Chases the player and fires aimed pairs of FlareDustFlare Dusts.
- After the Guardian Healer is defeated:
- Periodically fires rings of accelerating Holy Spears around itself.
- After firing two bursts of Flare Dusts, quickly charges at the player.
- After the Guardian Defender is defeated:
- Fires four spreads of four Flare Dusts in rapid succession before charging.
- Holy Spear rings have many more shots.
Guardian Defender
- While alive, the Guardian Commander's damage reduction is massively increased, rendering it nearly invulnerable until the Defender is defeated.
- Stays close to the Guardian Commander, occasionally charging towards the player.
- Fires single aimed FlareDustFlare Dusts at the player.
- After the Guardian Healer is defeated:
- Periodically fires rings of accelerating Holy Spears around itself.
- After shooting two Flare Dusts, quickly charges at the player.
Guardian Healer
- Follows the Guardian Commander, never attempting to directly attack the player.
- Heals the Guardian Commander and Guardian Defender for 5% of their maximum HP per second, making them effectively unkillable until the Healer is defeated.
In Expert Mode
- The Guardian Commander and Defender fire Flare Dusts at a faster rate.
In Revengeance Mode
- All three Guardians move faster.
- The Guardian Defender and Commander charge much faster.
- The Guardian Commander fires significantly faster when it is the last Guardian alive.

Tips
- For more elaborate strategies on defeating the Profaned Guardians, including weapon and arena recommendations, see Guide:Profaned Guardians strategies.
- Don't move around too quickly, as this will likely lead to you ramming into the many projectiles the Guardians fire. Take your time and observe how the boss functions.
- Circling the Guardians is a highly effective way to avoid most of their attacks.
Trivia
- The Profaned Guardians' theme is Unholy Ambush, which was composed by the artist DM DOKURO.
- Their theme has similarities with Providence's, due to the fact that their theme is a repurposed scrapped portion of Providence's theme.
- If the Calamity Music add-on mod is disabled, Boss 1 will play instead.
- Despite being a boss, the Guardians don't drop a Treasure Bag in Expert Mode.
- Although virtually impossible to do on-tier, if the Guardian Defender is somehow defeated before the Guardian Healer (such as using an endgame weapon), the Guardian Commander will remain in its first phase until the Healer is defeated as well, upon which it will instantly skip to its final phase. If the Guardian Commander is defeated first, the other two Guardians will instantly die.
- In previous versions of the mod, each of the Profaned Guardians were named "A Dunkin' Donut" as their previous sprites were often compared to donuts. Their name was also a reference to Dunkin' Donuts which is a famous coffee shop known for their donuts.
- If the Boss Checklist Mod is installed, their unique despawn message will be "The guardians must protect their goddess at all costs."

- Guardian Healer: "In a time lost to memory, there were four champions who used their fathomless determination to slay a dragon, that one might gorge themself upon its auric soul.
