The Chaos Stone is a Hardmode accessory that is dropped by Calamitas Clone. When equipped, the Mana Sickness debuff, which is normally inflicted upon players when they drink Mana Potions or their variants, is replaced by the Mana Burn debuff.
Mana Burn deals damage over time to the player, which decreases logarithmically as the debuff timer elapses. Specifically, the formula for the damage is: , where is a decimal representation of the remaining time on the debuff; at 5 seconds left, it is 0.5, at 10 seconds left, it is 1.0, etc. This peaks at 36 damage per second at the maximum duration of 10 seconds.
Unlike Mana Sickness, Mana Burn does not reduce the player's magic damage, meaning they can achieve greater damage output at the cost of damaging themselves.
Notes
- Identically to Mana Sickness, the Mana Burn duration increases by 5 seconds every time a Mana Potion is consumed and cannot exceed 10 seconds.
- If the player is somehow inflicted with Mana Sickness while this item is equipped (e.g. through other mods), the Mana Sickness is instantly removed, and its duration is added to the current duration of Mana Burn.
- This accessory synergizes excellently with the Last Prism, Dark Spark, and Yharim's Crystal, as they all have extreme damage output but cost huge amounts of mana to sustain, which normally means Mana Sickness heavily drags down their DPS. The Mana Flower or one of its upgrades is also recommended to be used alongside these weapons, as otherwise the player would have to spam the Quick Mana hotkey.
Trivia
- The Chaos Stone was originally intended to be a way to spawn Scoria Ore, but was ultimately instead added as an accessory.
History
- 2.0.0.001: Fixed an issue where it would still allow the player to be inflicted with Mana Sickness in very specific scenarios.
- 1.5.0.001:
- No longer grants stat boosts. It now makes consuming mana potions give the Mana Burn debuff instead of Mana Sickness. This debuff causes a damage over time effect instead of reducing magic damage.
- Increased drop rate from 10% to 20%.
- 1.4.2.106: Resprited.
- 1.4.1.001: Buffed damage boost from 2% to 3%, but removed critical strike chance boost.
- 1.3.2.001: Resprited.
- 1.1.7.701: Introduced.
