Feral Bite is a debuff that may be inflicted when a player is hit by certain types of bats and Duke Fishron in Expert Mode. It increases the player's damage by 20%, but lowers their health regeneration and may randomly inflict the Darkness, Cursed, Confused, Slow, Weak, or Silenced debuffs.

Debuffs

While the player is afflicted with Feral Bite, they are occasionally inflicted one of the following six debuffs, picked at random. On average, a new debuff is inflicted every 20 seconds, though this is highly variable.[1]

Debuff Duration
Darkness Darkness 1.8–3 / 3.6-6 / 4.5-7.5 seconds
Cursed Cursed 0.45–0.75 / 0.9-1.13 / 1.5-1.88 seconds
Confused Confused 0.9–1.5 / 1.8-3 / 2.25-3.75 seconds
Slow Slow 2.1–3.5 / 4.2-7 / 5.25-8.75 seconds
Weak Weak 3–5 / 6-10 / 7.5-12.5 seconds
Silenced Silenced 0.6–1 / 1.2-2 / 1.5-2.5 seconds

Tips

  • While at the first look seeming like a rather weak debuff, the randomly occurring debuffs can cause major damage to a player. The Confused and Cursed debuffs can easily catch players on the wrong foot, especially when they are not aware of being under the influence of Feral Bite.
  • Having an Ankh Charm or Ankh Shield can eliminate all other debuffs generated by Feral Bite, making it technically a pseudo-buff.

Trivia

  • Despite being Expert-exclusive, the debuffs Feral Bite inflicts have durations for Classic Mode.
    • It is possible to achieve these shorter durations in Journey Mode by changing the difficulty from Expert/Master Mode to Classic Mode after being inflicted with Feral Bite.
  • Internally, Feral Bite is named Rabies, a real disease which affects animals and humans.
