The Glacial Embrace is a Hardmode summon weapon that is dropped by Cryogen. When used with its primary fire (left-click), it will first encase the player with an icy shield, then with subsequent uses adding one shield spike around it at the cost of a single minion slot. While the ice shield itself does not consume minion slots, it cannot be summoned if the player has no remaining minion slots. Each summoned shield spike will revolve around the shield while moving outwards from it until the spike reaches a set distance where it glows into a deeper shade of blue and is ready to be launched. The fully-charged spike will launch themselves into a nearby enemy or continue orbiting the player otherwise. If the player has at least one shield spike, they can use their secondary fire (right-click) to surround the closest enemy to the cursor with a duplicate ring of spikes, orbiting around and diverge until a set distance when they all launch into the enemy at once.

Its best modifier is Ruthless. The Mythical modifier provides the widest array of stat bonuses, but these primarily affect the initial summon rather than the resulting minion. Additionally, minions cannot deal critical hits. The only lasting advantage a Mythical Glacial Embrace has over a Ruthless one is knockback.

Trivia

  • The shield spike is referenced as "GlacialEmbracePointyThing" in the mod's source files.
  • The weapon's old name is a reference to the spell card "Cold Divinity", used by the character Cirno from the Touhou Project series.
The player encased in an icy shield and orbiting shield spikes.
